Credit balance on Santander, won't transfer it back to me!

I recently took a consolidation loan and cheques were sent to all of my cards. A couple now have credit balances. Tesco are sending me a cheque but santander are refusing to give me my money back saying the minimum they can give back is £50. I am owed £14. I know its not a lot but its still my money and they are refusing to give it back. Can they do this? I do not want to spend the money.

When you consolidate as you've done, isn't the best approach to close down the cards so as not to end up in a worse position?

Simply close the account(s) and they'll refund any positive balance.
  • Or buy groceries or similar for £14 using that card and then use the £14 from your current account that would have been used to pay into the savings account (assuming that is what you are doing)
  • Have called them and asked to close the account but now they want details that were on the card that was destroyed. This just keeps getting better! So now they are sending me a new card so I can phone them to cancel.

We are closing all the accounts we were just waiting on the cheques to clear on them first incase there was anything left to pay due to interest changes etc.
