Cheap Gas & Electricity- still looking?

Has anyone looked at Ebico? This company is the non profit division of Southern Electric and was specifically set up for users who have Key meters (part of the social tariff and poverty scheme). They DO NOT charge you extra for having a key meter! In fact their prices are so good I use them even though I pay by monthly direct debit. :jYou use Southern Electric's customer service which has been great. You do however have to sign up on-line for this one.

I have looked at a number of comparison sites and Ebico is always within pounds the cheapest. I stay with them as the 2 companies that are close have really bad customer service in my experience.

British Gas always come up at least £100 or more expensive.

Be warned about comparison sites as well. I had a look on one and was told that nPower was £73 cheaper than my current tariff. When I checked their website it was actually £3.50 cheaper and not worth changing.:( I actually reported this to nPower who really didn't care until I pointed out to them that they could loose customers over this and could look dishonest. Although they are not responsible for the information on other sites, customers may look at it a bit differently. They eventually said they would have a look and sent me a £10 voucher to say thanks for pointing the problem out. There are new comparison site coming out all the time and some are better than others. It is worth checking a few and double checking on the providers website.

Hope this has been a help to someone out there.

  • I'm with Ebico (southern electric) for exactly the same reasons moondancer.

Have had no problems with customer service and recommend them to other people with prepay meters due them not charging you just for having the prepay meters in.
It is only a bargain if you need it!

Most companies charge no difference for prepayment meters and credit meters on the standard tariff. The main difference is the other companies will give direct debit discounts. Always check prices on consumption as I believe Ebico are not good for high users but are better for the low users.
