Housing Benefit backdating

I claimed Housing Benefit online a couple of months back but missed my deadline day to complete because I was waiting for my P45 to arrive. (I went in person to the council on my deadline day but the advisor didn't tell me about or action an extension)
So now I have to fill in the form all over again with more evidence and paperwork needed.
I'm now 4 months in rent arrears and I've got to write to explain why I think they should backdate my claim. Obviously I'm going to explain the situation but should I be writing anything inparticular? Should I go in to detail about how I'm having sleepless nights because I'm about to be evicted?!
If they don't backdate it to the time I first claimed I'm in big big trouble.
Thanks

put as much detail as you can, backed up with dates/times and any paper evidence you have.
you could also ask your council for a 'discretionary housing payment' - look it up online0 -
Thanks! I did claim but was slow to get all the paperwork so I think I might be ok.Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE
