Being Ignored by EDF!

Options
Hi,

We’re currently being ignored by EDF - And in real need of advice.

We joined EDF in December of 2010 & Because my partner & I is on a low income We requested that we was put on a payment plan & agreed on a mutual figure each week.

However, We soon received a letter, Telling us, We needed to up this amount by at least £20 more weekly. As this wasn’t acceptable due to us being a low income, We just couldn’t afford the weekly amounts, Yet, We was using less electric in the first quarter then predicted.

I spent over 25 minutes on the phone - And - Got no answer.
This happened over & over, I tried emailing, Letters ect. With no reply.

When we finally managed to speak to a human, Who told we had to pay £75 per week.
(We have a small one bedroom house - Storage heaters - But these are never used!!)

Again, After telling them that we will be leaving, I was told I was being offered a one time deal, Where we could pay £40 a week. Again, I refused, Purely, Because we have family with bigger houses (3/4) who’s on electric meters who only pay round £15 PW.

Before I ended the call, I was asked if I could pay £40 a month, Which I agreed, So ended up staying with EDF.

At the time, The advisor said, That they would send out a meter reader to maintain & update the old meter incase there was a fault on the reading!

To get to the point, We was told that their indeed was a fault, due to old age on the meter - He was requesting that the meter was replaced & the that customer services would update the balance to our account.

Months have gone past & still, We have heard nothing. I have tried calling, Emailing & writing letters after letters & nothing is being replied to.
Worse still, We received a quarterly bill last week & a letter TELLING us to start paying more due to this quarter we have used £330.00 of electric.

So, Freezing our backsides off, Barely having any hot water & using small lamps & candles as lighting clearly isn’t working. Infact, Its costing us more!

I understand that everything is going up, But this just isn’t on, If I knew it would be cheaper to live in a 4 bedroom house - Have a key meter - With storage heaters being used, I would have gone for that instead.

Yet again, I’m still being ignored, I haven’t heard anything since august.
All EDF say is, We have nothing on their notes, But this isn’t my fault. Is there anything I can do to have this bill reduced…?
Sorry for the essay its just really getting us down now!

Thank you for reading in advance.

Hopefully you have the meters Day & Night readings from when you moved in - Take the meter readings now, work out what you have used and compare it what you have been billed for - Any reading on a bill that has an E against it is Estimated, which could be too high or too low.

The big concern is Eon's meter inspection showed the meter to be faulty, but they have done nothing about it - WRITE by snail mail to EON heading the letter Complaint, setting out as best you can the history of your account and the faulty meter
Also, it's not uncommon for suppliers to mix up which one of the meters two readings is the Day rate and Night rate, so check which of the meters two reading is supplying your daytime power and check it against the bill.

I guess you understand how ECO7 meters work, but just in case:
They deliver cheap power overnight to heat the storage rads and provide a tank of Hot Water - The down side is that the power you use during the day is expensive, so if you are heating hot water in the day it's very costly
  • Thanks for the reply,

I have tried writing to various departments. Mainly to the complaints department, But again, Trying anything just to get a reply.
I have requested a change of supplier from EDF - But i'm concerned that they will refuse it over & over, Leaving me with no way of contact or getting away from them.

Its making me sick with stress & worry - Due to the fact, They make people further in debt. I tried calling again this morning, All i got was a 32 min wait, Before i was disconnected & told to call back later........

  • One of the best ways to counter being ignored - ignore them back! They'll then start getting in touch more frequently ;-)
