Why do I find nothing straightforward-flamin' Twitter...?

Hello again.

I have joined Twitter this morning. I am trying to upload a jpeg photo onto my profile from my computer. Whenever I try the Twitter connection is lost and the page crashes. I have read that the picture cannot be over 700k in size. My picture is 1.53mbs and has been uploaded to other sites successfully. I would like to know if this is too big for Twitter and if so how do I make it smaller? I have tried Googling to find out which is bigger but have got nowhere. K's and Mb's mean nothing to me...I'm still in Imperial.

u can open in paint and re-size it or use irfanview (free) to resize/ change resolution.

Googler-you are obviously what your name suggests-thanks for finding the conversion for me.
Free-I loaded Irfan, and pressed a few likely looking buttons and hey presto!-my pictureis on Twitter (and oddly it doesn't look any smaller or different than it did before?)-so thanks to both for your help.
