Use a wireless router as WIFI adapter?

I have a spare netgear WIFI router and was wondering if I could use it as a WIFI adapter with my Sony Bravio TV?
The TV can be connected to the internet but it needs a special Sony WIFI adapter.
I know the answer is to just try it BUT that means disrupting my wife's TV viewing, so if it is not going to work, it will save me a few moans if I don't need to try it.
Just an idea.

If the TV has an ethernet connection (wired), you may be able to change a setting in the spare router to turn it into an access point.
What is the model of the router?0 -
You may be able to convert the spare router you have into a wireless bridge

Too complicated.
So its not as simple as plugging the router into the ethernet port on TV. Which is a Sony Bravia with all the internet connectivity which needs a SPECIAL Sony WIFI adapter to connect to my WIFI to connect to the internet.
Another thing on the TV that will never be used.
And there is no way my wife would let me run a cable from the lounge to the upstairs bedroom where the computer and modem are.
The router is a netgear WGR614v6 configured by Telewest
I just fancied streaming the occasional iplayer programme to the TV and watching it on a 30 inch screen.0 -
Could use a homeplug, they make use of the existing electrical wiring in your home.
Plug 1 as close as possible to your TV, connect it with a short length of ethernet cable. Plug 1 as close as possible to your router, connect with short length of ethernet cable.

I know that, but I don't want to. That means spending money.
I wanted to use my redundant WIFI router if it was possible.
I just thought I would ask on here if I could use it, as I thought it would be easier to ask on here than negotiate time on the TV to try it out.
That's why I have a sat card in my computer.0 -

If you don't want to spend money and want to use your spare router, you will have to put up with 'complicated' - not that it is
I know it's subjective but step by step instructions often make things appear much more complicated than they actually are
Bottom line is, you can [probably] use that redundant router but you'll have to reconfigure it to work - you've got nothing to lose, give it a go0
