Does anyone, more knowledgeable than me, know if an item that is marked 14ct 585 MIDAS 585 is actually real gold or is it plated.

14ct is 14/24 pure gold and 585 is 585 parts per 1000 - works out the same so should be solid gold0

Yes, i'm fine with that bit, its the MIDAS bit i'm worried about. Have warning bells ringing in my head. I'm sure that someone once told me that this mark means its plated. Have googled it and found something about the MIDAS PEN PLATING SYSTEM. Have just had another look at the auction and maybe people havnt asked questions about the hallmarks like I did (there is no mention on the description about the marks, just says its 14ct) as the price has risen a lot. Think I will give this a miss.0

if it is stamped with 14ct and has an assay mark you should be fine - its a serious crime to fake assay marks. If you post a link to the item we can have a better look.0

Many thanks for that everyone. I didnt bid for it and it went quite high. At least I now know that it was probably perfectly ok and made in Turkey. Looking at their site, the bracelet was quite similar.0
