Who all do I claim from?

Hi all,
Sorry if this is a stupid question but the MSE article isn't actually clear on this.
I know I can claim on credit cards, loans and mortgages but is there anyone else I should claim such as:
Car insurance paid monthly
Home insurance paid monthly with mortgage
Mobile phone contracts
Any advice would be great.
Also, got my free trial from Equifax so I can write to all the companies about PPI but it doesn't list any of the car insurance policies that I have paid monthly. If I can indeed reclaim PPI on this then how do I get a list of the policies I've had?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey Marty, it's my understanding that it was sold alongside credit products. It was a way to pay for the repayments if you found you couldn't pay for them. This would not have been sold with insurances. Your best place to start would be looking back over past credit agreements to see if it's included anywhere, then take it from there. You can send off a SAR if you don't know loan/credit card/mortgage account numbers or have the agreements to hand. Then you send off the questionnaire and template letter. Then it's the waiting game. If they reject you, off to the ombudsman with you but the pay out rate is 90% I believe.

I don't think you will find you have been paying PPI on car insurance, home insurance or mobile phone contracts. Loans, credit cards and Mortgages are the ones you should stick to.Successes

Hello Kerri,
Fancy seeing you here! Lol.
I will go through my Equifax list and write to all the companies on there using the template letter. What's the questionnaire you mention? Also, Equifax only lists the last four digits of the account numbers so what do I put on the letter?

Any idea what I do about the account numbers as Equifax only lists the last four digits? Do I just send the letter and a cheque for £1 or is there anything else?Council Tax £1,928.85, Fines £90.00, Old Car Tax £267.00, Gas £337.25, Electric £54.42

I marched my OH down to the branch and got him to ask them for the account numbers. This was a few months ago and he's still not posted the template letter & questionnaire *bangs head on wall*. But you could try this route, never hurts to ask and it was freee (favourite word). I think you just ask for a list of account numbers otherwise, and whether they had PPI on them. Be warned, any with Lloyds you'll be waiting months so don't expect it anytime soon. Best of luck with it.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

If you have no paperwork on any loans, credit cards or mortgages and no account numbers then the only thing you can do is SAR the institutions that you had these things with. It cost £10 to SAR each company and they have 40 days to comply and give you all the details they hold on you but they will probably only go back 6 years.
You have to ask yourself "do I think I have been paying for PPI on any major items and if so have I any reason to believe I was mis-sold the policies" There is plenty of guidance in the "Reclaim 1,000s" tab above, have a read and if you honestly feel you have a case send a SAR to the companies in question to get account numbers, as that is all you need to proceed.
Or indeed as kerri says, contact the companies involved and ask the question first, worth a shot they might give it up freelySuccesses

Will phone them all up for full account numbers and maybe try asking if I had PPI to save the £1. Lol. What's the questionnaire you mention?
Apparently I had a credit card with Lloyds TSB although I don't remember! Also had an Egg Money credit card so I'm not sure who I should contact as I believe they've been taken over.Council Tax £1,928.85, Fines £90.00, Old Car Tax £267.00, Gas £337.25, Electric £54.42

You need account numbers first, whatever way you can get them, free or by paying for a SAR.
Then scroll down to Part 3 on the following link to download the questionnaire

Hopefully someone will come back to you on the Egg question and who to contact but get the account numbers first and take it from thereSuccesses

Thanks Dilus; much appreciated!
Going through my Equifax file and filling in the template letters with the information I have so far and will ring them all tomorrow to ask for my account numbers. What's a SAR? A SAR is a Subject Access Request, it costs a one off fee of £10 per request and the bank has to supply you with all they have on file within 40 days.
