Hi - I am wondering if anyone is aware exactly what the rules are in terms of national insurance contributions and contributory ESA as in what do you have to have paid and in what time frame to qualify? -I cannot find this information anywhere and would be very grateful if anyone can advise?
Thanks

I believe from reading posts on here and by being corrected last week by bobajob that you need to have paid class 1 national insurance contributions for 2008-9 and 2009-10 to be entitled to contributions based ESA/JSA.

i'd also check with the benefits office in person.
I had a shock/surprise last week.
I thought/was led to believe i was on esa income.. for the past 2 years, job before then was only 20 hours for 2 years.
aparently... i am on cont based esa, with a top up of esa income.. i saw this myself, i have paperwork saying i am on income esa.
I'm glad i did see for myself, because i am coming off esa income next june (if not before) and was told on this forum that i would not be entitled to cont based esa..
i was told by the benefits lady who showed me the screen that this was wrong and that i could go on to cont based esa (which is a lot less money) my reply was well this can't be right and told her that i was told on here that i could not..
she said that it was correct, so i said ah but only for 12 months if i had to go onto it, she said no, it was not decided yet and no rule had been passed.. it was still all talks.0
