New Years Eve 2011 London

Ok I've sorted travel and accommodation for NYE 2011. This in itself cost an arm and a leg :( However my girlfriend and I have always wanted to see in the New Year in the Capital so we decided to go for it.
One question though. Does anyone have any idea how we can have a frugal new years and still have a good time? We refuse to pay the extortionate ticket prices charged by most pubs. Restaurants seem to cost a fortune too.
Thanks :)

When ever we go to London we always eat in Pizza Hut, never been on new years eve though.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • Get an early supper at a Pizza Express or similar then wander around looking for firework displays (and/or buy or lookup Timeout for recommendations a couple of days before)

I asked this before but didn't get a reply- I was wondering how easy it is to get into the chain pubs around Leicester Sq/Trafalgar etc- places like Wetherspoons/slug/Yates? Do they usually charge or have ticket entry or anything? I know places like Planet Hollywood are charging but we don't really want to commit too far ahead.
