iPod Nano 1st Gen replacement scheme

Hi everyone,

I had an email today informing me of this scheme which claims that there is some kind of problem with some of the older iPod nano batteries and that Apple will replace your iPod with a new version for you. I was a bit apprehensive at first that it might be a scam so had a bit of a search through Apple's website and came across THIS page so it seems to be legit.

Has anyone taken them up on this and actually had a new iPod sent back? It doesn't specify whether it would be a new model or just a replacement either way its pretty good as my trusty old Gen1 is a bit battered and bruised (albeit still working perfectly!)

Any thoughts?

My MRS has just registerd, and it says they will send us a box for her to send hers in, and willr receive a new one within 6 months

I'm waiting for a box to arrive. Still unsure whether to send it off though. I don't want to get a used/refurb one back if it's in similar condition to mine anyway, are Apple refurbs any good?

Yes. It will have a new battery and outer shell (so no scratches etc).

Some people have already had their replacements they are prob refurb but look like brand new Gen 1 Nano's.

Got my box today from Apple, sending it tomorrow! You'll get a 1st Gen Nano back in return, according to MacRumors.com

what did you guys receive in the packaging to send it back? some people are receiving a cardboard box and others are receiving just a padded envelope?
