  • Day 2 and 3!

Day 2 - raised £324 for Children In Need at work! Utilised existing adult sized babygro for dressing up, and baked cakes. Needless to say, the cakes cost me a bit BUT for the amount we raised am happy to ignore this ;) Went out after work to Wetherspoon, stuck to vodka diet coke (think I bought about 2) and scampi and chips!

Day 3 - picked up my beautiful car which caused this Debt Free Diary :) it's lovely. The moneysaving theme? Almost 50mpg :) Quite strange paying out almost 8 grand on my debit card though. Had to tax it, and pay a bit on top of my existing insurance (was still the cheapest quote though, I made sure of that) They serviced the car (unexpectedly) so that will save us a bit in the next year or so. Still, an eye-wateringly expensive day :( the good bit is that I have change out of my loan though. I'll send that straight over towards my credit card, which will free up a bit more for paying off the loan when it goes out this time next month.

Disappointed to note you can't add your loan to your list of accounts on Nationwide internet banking, would make overpaying and tracking a lot easier. Still, can't fault Nationwide - they were good enough to give me 6.1% APR! (and a mortgage lol)

As much as I love my car, I am definitely not a fan of spending money. I wasn't excited that much going to get it, just a bit down that I am now in debt. I truly hate spending money. So, I don't think I'll be trying to get any more into debt, that's for certain. I know sometimes circumstances dictate your finances, but am determined to make my expenditure as lean as I possibly can, and fulfil my promise of paying it off within 12 months :)

  • Day 4 - had to go out to Sainsburys as we'd run out of loads of basics!

Educated my OH on... forget what it's called....where you go to the next brand down? We mostly buy own brand but I showed him what sorts of things can be bought on the Sainsburys budget stuff - he was a bit dubious but agreed to most of it. We also bought a lamb neck and piece of beef, £3 for both of them because they had to be eaten today. We had to buy loads of snacks cos my little brother is staying with us, we made sure it was all on offer.

Had to go to Farmfoods to get some dog food (we feed them a natural diet, one of our extravagances, but because we've run out and delivery takes 2 days we bought frozen mince) and found loads of stuff for our freezer, absolute bargain. We bought all the dog food and extra stuff for us for £16. We spent nearly £50 at Sainsburys but I'd say altogether that lot will last us 2 weeks :)

In other money saving... well, I haven't been anywhere to money save! We've started to talk about Xmas and what our plans are. I think after seeing the price of turkeys we will take OH's mum up on her offer of Xmas dinner! (we were going to eat at home as it's our first chrimbo in our own house but hmmm) We have concluded that we MIGHT buy each other pressies after all, but it will come out of our regular spending money. We have budgeted £100 to buy everyone else's presents. I just can't wait to see my pay slip now, I have been accumulating nearly £400 per month over the past 6 months in back pay so I'm excited to see it. I have also done some overtime so although I know what my back pay is, I really don't know how much I've got altogether until next Thursday.

    Happy money saving :)

  • Hi everyone

I'm disappointed for not updating this for a while but once I get to the end, you'll see why!

Things have been absolutley manic at home after both my dogs were caught down with anemia caused by eating onions :( one dog got worse and nearly died, he ended up going to a special hospital for a week's treatment.... luckily he has come home but we are still waiting for the bill!! we have pet insurance but the excess is £70 + 10% of the rest of the bill.... total bill in the region of about £2k I think (I'm just glad we have insurance) we've also paid for a small amount of treatment for our other dog totalling £70ish. I've paid for some of the treatment on my credit card already. I've paid for the more minor treatment straight out of our December spending money, so that's good, but I'm still waiting to see exactly how much we have to pay directly.

So in and amongst all the treatment deposits, blood test fees, diesel back and fore the vets (100 miles round trip!) it's safe to say the finances are a little higgeldy piggledy at the mo and I'm still trying to see exactly how much we've spent/have left to spend for the month. Along with all of this I also visited a friend in Vienna. I wasn't going to go but when my dog started to get better I thought I may as well go. I spent rather a lot on alcohol to see me through the flight on my own :( I took £70 cash but also withdrew about €30 and bought one meal on my credit card,. Not huge spending but enough to annoy myself and wonder if I should have gone. Tomorrow in work I am going to have a good go at the finances again to see where I am.

Doesn't everything come at once?? Starting to wish I'd never bought my new car, it's too late now I know, and I do love it,.... hmmm.

Along with all of the aboves I really need to take account of the positives, that I have not bought lunch once since starting this diary, I've taken food in every day, this has saved me over £3 a day! I've also bought a few lovely small Xmas pressies for the people who will be receiving this year. We haven't actually spent all that much from our spending money so far this month and I am really happy that we are really budgeting and being sensible.

Will be glad when I can iron out my credit card bill and things though :)
