I didn't see that until just now, I'm shocked and appalled by it. I can't work out whether it's saying that being in debt is bad or good.
yes kerri its a bit confusing.I was intrigued by the list further down on the right hand side of it, the "Weekly Household Spending" I mean like how many of us are going to be using an hotel and restaurant every week or spend £58 on recreation and culture every week.Doesnt seem to ring true as the norm...either that or i am poorer than i thought. The survey was done by the "Office of Family Statistics".
Maybe we will get a better picture of it if we watch the program.
To me £40.000 for a family of 4 works out around £10.000 per person which is half of what i live on and they are querying if its enough. Its depressing to read stuff like that when a lot of us are living hand to mouth as it is.
A bit like Samantha Cameron's shoes yesterday being broadcasted all over the papers at £600.How totally sick considering how people are struggling these days.:(

To be fair, £40000 is actually take-home £25000 per year if it is one parent working, approximately £6250 per person per year for a family of 4. A lot more than some people have to survive on, but not exactly cushy, particularly if living in the London area.

My parents combined income is around £35000, and with a teenager at home, plus two uni students to try and support they don't have it easy, though its not as hard as when we were all at home. They're just about affording one UK holiday per year, change cars when the old ones totally give up and have strict budgets for food, clothes, presents etc.

    Helloooooooooooo all

Ive been to the M.E clinic today, and as its 45 mins away I have totally blown my challenge :( was out the house at 2pm didnt get back till 5  so much for 1 hr a day :( OK ive just worked it out and im £6.50 overdrawn on my challenge :rotfl: oh dear its just like my life! :rotfl:

Having a read of everyones info about hoarding etc, big hugs too all :grouphug: Im not a possession hoarder, Im a paperwork hoarder :( Went looking for info about a previous credit card (on the hope of claiming some PPI) and found credit card statements from 1997  insurance certificates from 2000  WHY do I have these things? I have a double electric chair to myself as no-one can sit on the other side due to all the paperwork ive piles there :( had a good sort through and wrenching throw away session yesterday as the bureau (or paperwork dumping ground) is on ebay and I STILL have paperwork next to me after going through it all!!

I love clearing out stuff on ebay though, I think im a minimalist at heart as I just dont buy 'stuff', im not a depression spender or a gadget junkie . . . Im a wife who cant say no :( as my DH is a 'stuff' person and gadget person rolled into one. Oh I just cant bear the 6 year old sad puppy eyes when he cant have what he wants. Though a big part of our debt is from my own stupid idea, he got diagnosed with depression, I dusted off my trusty CC and bought him a weeks holiday to make him feel better! It did relax him but I got left with the debt stresses :(

    Evening hope everyone is good?

Just a quick question from me. When i clear my credit card if i close the account does it really make your credit rating worse by doing this or is this nonense?

Apologies for asking but im a bit confused as i hear contradicatory stories on this. Thanks

    hi browng,

Umm ive never heard that before! Ive had pretty much every credit card going and have never seen it affect my credit score adversely. I thought only defaults and excessive searches reflected badly, im sure it says just says on your report 'closed' and your credit amount (as well as how many missed payments for how long).

Having too many credit cards open can be bad for you, as it's too much access to credit =) Martin says somewhere to close them if you don't use them can't remember the link now though =/
