  • Thanks RFW I am hoping to set up a small shop/business on eBay after christmas, I feel I would fall at the furst hurdle doing now with the christmas rush! Currently just buliding up some feedback.

Do you know of anyone who has a micropayments paypal account? I've been reading up on them and for alot of the things I've thinking of selling that would be best but it things go over £9.50 then it would be best in a normal paypal account... Is their anyway you can stop people paying untill you send them the invoice so you can decide which account it should go into?

I have a micro and a premier account and unfortunately there is no wya at all of changing the account after the aucition has finished. You have to guess before hand what the likely end priceis going to be. I have got it wrong on several occasions, starting at £2 expecting my item to reach maybe the dizzy heights of £3 only to have ti finish at £40 and the payment going to my micro account.

The only time it can be changed is if you have a buyer with more than one item who asks for a combined invoice- then the paypal id is not greyed out and can be changed.

How clear is the definition of business seller please ? I do buy for resale (at car boots, mostly) but it's my first year of trading on Ebay and I don't make enough profit out of it yet to declare the income to the Revenue and change my activities on Ebay as business (I'm selling less than 100 items a month anyway).
You are breaking the law. You HAVE to register as self employed the moment you start taking money. The fact you earn little or no profit is completely and utterly irrelevant. If I were you, I'd register tomorrow before you get found out and fined for not doing and then getting another fine for not submitting a self assessment you were required to. HMRC DO spend a lot of time looking at sellers on Ebay and with the amount you're selling you will show up on their radar.

And yes, you should be registered on Ebay as a seller. You are buying goods to sell in the course of a business. That is being a trader. You are legally required to comply with all relevant laws and legislation.
