Oil on Uggs - help needed!!!

Options
I've just dropped olive oil all over my chestnut uggs:( I put vanish on them (done this before but for much less oil)and suede cleaner and gave them a light scrub, after a quick google I then put baby powder on the areas and now I'm stepping away from them before I cry:( anyone got any other advice?

Almost neat washing up liquid, a little water and a toothbrush can help with oil. It breaks it up better than most other things.

    At this point nothing ventured......

Ok the thing to do is sprinkle cornflour on the oil patch, wait for it to be absorbed then brush off with suede brush. Repeat and repeat. It happened to me the first day I wore them on Christmas Day as I was basting the roasties but i worked on the stain and it eventually came out!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I'm not sure if you wanna risk it but I was able to put my old Uggs in the washing machine, they were about 4 years old when I did this and are now 7 years old and are still wearable (I have a new pair but can't bare to part with these...sentimental value!).

I put mine on a wool wash with some normal wool wash and although some of the colour faded, when I did put them in the machine to begin with the rain and snow had already made them fade somewhat and left salt stains already. The salt stains faded and they showed no damage, I didn't have any oils stains but if I did I think I'd try this again, though do slow the spin part down as much as possible as they may well damage the insides of your machine if they are thrown about too fast. Stuff them with old newspaper and leave them somewhere warm and with a lot of air to dry. Don't risk the hair dryer or radiator on them they will dry more evenly.

If its any help, mine were black.

Thanks jennie, before I read your post I had washed them this morning, the talc did help but when I brushed it there were still marks and I wasn't happy with the result, so in the machine they went, as skylight said nothing ventured...They seem to of survived the wash and the oil marks have gone:j except for one which is still visible but I could get away with it. They are currently sitting under the radiator (its off) in the kitchen stuffed with paper and looking rather wet and sorry for themselves:( but the colour looks fine, I'll have to see when they are dry.

    Thanks everyone for the help:T

Thats good to hear it worked :D

Just don't do what I did and see any fading then think; "oh thats OK I'll just use some Dylon Suede dye on them..."

I had black feet for an a long time after doing this- yes the boots looked black again but what I didn't want was for my feet to also be black!

In all honesty I did wear mine in ALL weathers (so they did get wet) but I also used to wear my socks in them too and I had to bin several white pairs as a result (there are some things even Ariel is no match for!) If they fade either get them redyed professionally or style it out with a grunged up chic look, don't attempt to DIY!

Well, the boots are still wet but they look surprisingly good, the oil spot is still there but has faded dramatically, the pile on the suede is a bit flat looking but they are still wet, they look slightly frayed around the seams and labels but a quick trim should sort that.

jennie, I didn't even know you could get suede dye, and I thought I was being daring with my black Uggs and suede restorer;) I dyed (with fabric dylon in my washing machine) a pair of cardy Uggs from sand (they were wrecked) to navy and they turned out really well, I still wear them regularly, but maybe you shouldn't of told me they make suede dye;)

Ah but how much do you value having toes the same colour as the rest of your body? Took a lot of soaking and scrubbing to get my toes back to normal and made worse by the fact my feet are so damn pale! I looked like I had gangreen!!:rotfl:

Jen, its a sad day:( RIP Uggs:( They are dry but look as rough as anything, they are now leather not suede and at best they look battered and they are stiff, all the oil marks are there in some form or other, I will still wear them, rocking the battered look as you put it, from a distance they look a bit like bombers, if I say that enough times it will be true;) I'm gutted, dd keeps saying they are just boots mum, but they are my Uggs:(

Before you bin them, try washing them in the machine. I know this sounds ridiculous but I washed my Just Sheepskin boots (pale sand colour and oil marked like yours) with a squirt of Stardrops on a 30 wool wash (and a bit of neat stardrops rubbed into the stain), air dried them, gentle soft brush when dry then sprayed them with suede protector. They aren't quite good as new but look miles better and certainly don't seem to have come to any harm. I've got them on now! Worth a try?
Edited to add - Sorry see this is just what you did! Ignore me.....
