the national health service!

Hi! I just wanted to say that for the last week the national health service have really done this country proud. My DS (only 7) was rushed in to hospital last monday, and had to undergo an emergency 3 hour operation on tuesday. I have never in my life met such a deticated bunch of people in my life as the staff of our local hospital. From the surgical team, to the nurses, to the play leader in the ward, to the fantastic student nurses, every single person we dealt with was kind, compassionate, and incredibly wonderful. I know the nhs gets a hell of a lot of stick these days, but I honestly can say that my incredibly brave son, and myself, owe these people his life. Thank you so much!

Hi, i agree too - the NHS, or nurses, doctors, surgeons of the NHS get far too much negative feedback from the public, when it should be the 'managers' who should be answering all the questions.
Anyway, i had my gall bladder out just over a year ago, in a private hospital - i wish i had chosen to go NHS as it was not a nice experience. The nurses were constantly sullen and miserable and things like the shower did not work in my room (which i had to change). The only nice thing about it (apart from being free from the offending organ!) was the consultant. He was great!
Hope your son is better now

Its nice to find someone who agrees! the nhs gets such a rough ride, but these people were just incredible! they didnt partronise or rush my little one, they explained everything to him simply and accurately, and my god, they really were amazing to me when i had my 'mini nervous breakdown' whilst he was in surgery. Come on people, lets big up the nhs for a change!!!!You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

Yes I agree on Saturday I spent all day in A/E with my daughter and all the staff including Doctors, Nurses, Raidographer and Medical Photographer were all excellant and provided 100% dedication, care and were wonderful with my daughter.Competitions wins 2010

Couldn't agree more OP, the NHS do get a lot of stick but when I had a major car accident last year, the care was fantastic both in ICU and on the ward and I also had the dietician call me at home, loads of GP home visits - huge praise for them as well - and even the consultants for follow ups have been great.
I know I sound all gushing but they really were so good:D - literally saved my life.I was going to take over the world but got distracted by something sparkly.......0 -
Aww thats good to hear and hope your son is good!
I work in A&E and can tell you its b****y hard work, some of the time a thankless job dealing with abuse daily and morale gets real low. When I hear comments like this it makes me proud that I work for an organisation that is appreciated, I think the NHS has a while to go to improve things and am hopefull about its future. Thanks a lot, will got to work in the morning with a£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0 -

Hi all first time poster but have been looking at the boards for a while now so be gentle with me,
I Had a operation on Friday, was only supposed to be a day thing, (sterilisation) anyway went to the hospital everything was fine, new I was having a general anesthetic, went down to theatre was looked after really well as was quite a bit scared, last time had a operation was 14 am 39 now lol. Came round in recovery and couldnt feel my legs was in horrific pain, again the nurses and anesthetist who put me to sleep were fantastic. Bye this time I was beside myself and quite scared didnt no what was happening with me anyway ended up on the ward where again couln't praise the nurses enough.
Anyway the following morning I asked to see my doctor but was told he didnt want to see me as by now I could feel my legs and was walking ok. The nurse told me that more than likely I had had a reaction to the drugs when they put me to sleep, was not impressed that the surgeon who operated couldnt come and tell me what had actually happend, is this sort of thing that happens I would of liked the doctor to come and explain to me what did happend to me as it was very frighting.
Thank you for reading hope I posted in the right place.0 -

Is this normal practice, I suppose I could of insisted on seeing the surgeon but felt a bit silly at the time?

Hi Shirl, hope you are recovering well, you could have demanded to see the surgeon, whether you would have got to see him is another story ( may have been in surgery, wardrounds, out patients trying to discharge patients from a&e  etc), someone should have come to speak with you maybe the anaethetist as its his drugs used to put you to sleep and looks after you during the op.
If the surgeon was unavailable then his jnrs could have talked to you, anyway if you have a follow up appt soon I would mention it if it concerns you. x hth£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0
