Wondering if they will halt the 3p rise in jan?
as the news says its not just 3p vat goes up as well.
sky said out of £25petrol £15 is tax!
Seems extremly high to me as over 50%
I know they halted labours fuel duty when they came to power last year.
Always wonder why we never had another fuel strike?
im fortunate I live in a city we have a bus service which is expensive and never on time.
growing up lived in small rural town with few shops so my family who still live there rely on their cars.
I used to ride a vespa for work as was easier to park and cheaper.
We run 2 cars as hubby travels 60 miles a day to work, he has to be fully flexible so public transport not really viable option as he does some very early and late shifts.
Apart from work we maybe use the car once /twice a week.
we dont go far as moneys tight.
Thinking a cut maybe will stimulate the economy?
I thourght tory policy was a fuel escalater?
watching on bbc parliament quite a poor turn out.
I would imagine be good populist vote for them to win the next election as all age groups/socio economic groups drive.
Also huge benefit to some businesses

Personally I feel as if they will halt it. Or at least change it, so maybe they will increase by only 1p instead.
However, there comes a point with all these reversals where all the budget forecasts on income are totally undone. Also comes a point where we look back and realise actually, we haven't done anything to reduce the defecit.
As with everything. The longer we hold off, the worse things get. And unfortunately, not putting duty up on fuel will mean the loss of a massive amount of revenue to the country. Revenue it desperately needs.
The other point is that the government is between a rock and a hard place. Put duty up 3p, and we will all remember it. Cut duty, or just freeze it, and we will have forgotten the gesture a week later.0 -
A 2 car family is a luxury not a necessity. Reevaluate your sense of entitlement.0

The money will spent on something else which in turn will will raise tax revenues.0 -
Regarding the 3 pence can anyone remember what price a litre was at when it was first mentioned the reason i ask is if it is more than when they first thought about the rise then they are making more money than expected from extra tax on dearer petrol. So really they could easily leave it where it is without losing out on money. Does anybody eevr go for a drive anymore when i was younger sometimes we would go for a drive and maybe stop for something to eat somehow with the price of pertol i don't think many people use the car unless they have to.0

The trouble is that an increase in fuel prices has a knock on effect on everything we buy, because hauliers have to pass the costs on to suppliers, who pass it on to consumers.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I remember when they cut the tax by 1p last April or thereabouts and no one noticed any difference because just before the cut the oil companies and supermarkets put it up by about 5 pence.
Last week our local Morrisons had unleaded for £1-279, on Monday it went up 2p when the "spend £40 and get 6p off fuel" started.
So we`ve got three lots fiddling the oil price, speculators, the government and the retailers.0 -
whatever happened to the fuel price stabiliser; did that go the same way as 'we have no plans to increase VAT'?0

Depends where you live. Where I am now even in a city a car makes the difference between a 25 minute and a 1 and a half hour journey too work. In the countryside if both partners are working 2 cars would almost certainly be a necessity.0 -
Fact is... they are getting tax from taxed money... get rid of fuel tax to stimulate, and charge everyone 1p more on the income tax... lets see who prefers that and who doesnt! lolPlan
