I wouldn't be without my dryer. The washing rarely dries outside here in the winter. I hate seeing radiators covered with drying clothes, it damages the wallpaper behind them and makes the house smell damp.

Tumble dryer's can sometimes be really simple to fix and basic parts are quite cheap. i've replaced the belt and a thermostat on mine both for less then a £10 may be worth getting a handy mate to have a look

Yep go for triple a rated heat exchange one they use about 30% of the energy of a standard one

  • I would get a tumble drier. I can't live without mine. Plus I think drying washing indoors brings about it's own issues! x

  • If you can afford a new dryer and can also afford to run it just get one. A dehumidifier can help to get laundry dry but you've still got have the hanging-space somewhere while you run it. A family of five can generate A LOT of laundry.
  • thanks everyone
    i best get saving then

Our new dehumidifier takes about 8 hours to dry a load, and we do it overnight in the bathroom with the door shut. It costs alot less than using tumble dryer (13p versus 62p) but with a family of 5, that would be alot of hanging! I'm sure our greatgrandparents would have loved to have a tumble dryer. It does make life alot easier.

I dont have a tumble drier,we are a family of 4 adults and my grandson visits for a few days regularly. I have 2 clothes driers, hung from the ceiling, those victorian type things and also 2 clothes horses. I used to have a tumble drier,20 years ago,but got rid of it, I dont like them.
  • if you have a launderette nearby i would try that, i spend about £1.60 to £1.80 ish to dry 2 big loads, it also doesnt add to my electric bill

We are a family of five also and I don't have tumble dryer. I do a load a day and put it in the bathroom with the dehumidifier and it is dry in the morning.

I have an airer that fits over the bath and an upright one. Similar to this, but ours was £8.99 or so in Lidl http://www.lakeland.co.uk/23178/4-Tier-Concentina-Airer

And I splashed out on this I must admit. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/23177/Lakeland-Over-Bath-Airer
