Most TFT monitors these days (even the relatively 'cheap' ones) come with 5-10ms response times, which will have no ghosting even when playing fast-paced games. I got my 19" widescreen TFT for £105 off Amazon last year. It has a 5ms response time, & doesn't display any ghosting. G

Usually no drivers are needed for a bigger monitor, most come with a driver disc that tells the computer what resolutions it can display. It's always a good idea to get the latest drivers for your graphics card, especially if you buy a widescreen monitor, as the graphics card driver installed on the computer may not have the widescreen resolutions available.

    HI,

Your onboard graphics shouldn't have a problem with the new monitor. 19" TFT's work best at a resolution of 1280 * 1024. As said above, the monitor should come with a disc that tells the computer what resolutions it can run at - load this disc then: right clck on the desktop - properties - settings, then slide the "screen resolution" slider to 1280 * 1024.

If it's a widescreen one, note that its native resolution would be 1440x900 (or similar) - not 1280x1024. Onboard graphics should be able to handle it (as Chaos has explained), but confirm this just to be on the safe side. If it doesn't, you'll need to fit a basic card (to keep costs low) that will. G

Is there any website were I can check out a review of monitors before I buy
  • Here's the latest PC Pro Labs test. They don't really tend to test the less well known stuff though, but remember those prices are the RRP, so you should be able to get them much cheaper if you shop around. The winner of their Best Value award is available on EBuyer for just over £130.
