Kenya orphanage trip- any advice please

Well done on your planned trip to Kenya. I have made half a dozen trips out there and can tell you your efforts will be really appreciated. Not to put a downer on things but I would like to offer a word of caution. You are obviously a caring, generous individual. Just be wary that a few unscrupulous individuals prey on people like you. If someone stops you and starts asking you about advice on university or life in England I would just walk on. There are scams where you politely stop and talk and then get accused by 'policemen' of giving counterfeit money. You are then charged a 'fine' to be let off. I managed to get out of this by legging it back to my hotel (in Nairobi) and never went out alone again. I also got involved with one unscrupulous Kenyan here in London who asked me to support his village and ended up emotionally blackmailing me out of a lot of money. It is easy to get carried away in feeling you need to give everything you have to help others less fortunate than you. (Hence found my way on here to try and financially recover!) Anyway please don't be put off - I don't want to be negative. Just be on your guard please.

Thanks for the advice, it is appriciated. There will be a group of around 7 of us travelling and we are planning to always stick together so no one will be alone anyway but thankyou for the warning.
