unconfirmed address

I have just received a paypal payment for over £100 from an unconfirmed address and buyer with only 3 feedback

i am not going to accept the payment as i will not be covered by paypals seller protection so i will suggest that the buyer pays by another method eg bank transfer, cheque or postal order

if the buyer wants to pay by paypal to have buyer protection, how can he go about getting his address confirmed? what would he have to say when he phones paypal?

i have had buyers phone paypal in the past to ask about getting their address confirmed and paypal customer services have not known what they are talking about.

thanks in advance

to confirm an address, there is a link to click on Paypal site...

they then call you at home and give a 4 digit number to put in...and thats it....
Step 1:We ask you to check that the address and home telephone number you registered with your debit or credit card are correct.

PayPal needs to confirm that you reside at the address where you receive your debit or credit card statements. To make this confirmation, PayPal makes an automated phone call to the number entered for your address. Please ensure the details you have entered are correct.

Finally, you may choose to receive the automated call now or in one minute by selecting the appropriate button. Click continue.

Step 2: PayPal will issue you with a 4 digit PIN number to enter when you receive the automated phone call.

Step 3: You will receive an automated call from PayPal. When you answer this call, you are instructed to enter the PIN displayed on this page. After you have entered this PIN in the phone keypad, you may hang up. Congratulations, you have successfully validated your account information!

this is all i can find on paypal

Can I confirm my eBay postal address?

Yes, you can confirm your eBay postal address through PayPal. A confirmed address is one that meets PayPal's security standards. Confirm your address in three ways:

Add a credit card to your PayPal account. PayPal confirms the credit card billing address.

Apply for PayPal Buyer Credit. If approved, the address on your application will be a confirmed address.

Complete an alternative address confirmation. This process takes several days and is only available for US accounts. To learn more, log in to your PayPal account and visit the Alternative Address Confirmation page.

For buyers, confirmed addresses help guard against stolen credit cards and identity theft. For sellers, confirmed addresses help prevent fraudulent purchases and potential chargebacks.

is that not to verify your account rather than confirm your address?

    oh i see, thanks.

I will just have to wait and see what the buyer wants to do and will send him the above link if he wants to confirm his address, thats if he gets my reply.

He emailed to tell me he had paid by paypal and replied to his email but it was returned to me straight away as failed delivery.

I then had to write it all out again and send via an ebay message, I presume he won't see this until he next logs into his account as the email ebay send him will probably fail aswell.

Hopefully he will log into his ebay account shortly as otherwise he may think I have done a runner with his money.

If no reply in a couple of days I guess I will have to try and phone him to resolve this.
