Advice needed RE: New york (and to lesser extent, Las Vegas) Hotels

People are offering you good advice, I would certainly try and get a return to Vegas and a 'free' stopover in New York on the way back.
The Belleclaire is a nice hotel, my friend who I stay with when I am in town lives next door and it's in a really nice safe neighbourhood, BUT because it's a nice neighbourhood in the Upper West Side (lots of money to live there $$$$$), it's never going to be cheap as their basic rates do not include tax or occupancy fees.
It is only one block away from the subway line though and is a 10 min ride on the subway from Times Square.
Arriving the 1st Dec............. it's going to be busy with all the Christmas shoppers, but I love the city on the lead up to Christmas. The Rockerfeller tree will be lit up and the shop windows with displays like you couldn't think possible and just a general nice vibe in the streets.
As for Vegas................ do you really think you will be spending much time in your hotel room there ? I would just get a basic room there and spend all your money on having a good time. The Treasure Island show that they put on is good, but I wasn't overwhelmed with the interiors - but that's just my opinion.****************************0 -

Hope this helps, good luck with the search!
Thanks for the advice...and i've already gathered from the APPALLING reviews that the penssylvania is a complete dive!

If what you request is true here are a few suggestions...
Spending ~£200 for 4 nights in Vegas (inc. a Friday nights is asking a bit!)
T.I will be a good buy, but you have a few choices ...
Spend a lot less ... (i.e £20/night) and stay in Motel 6 if you want to gamble a lot), or stay at The Stratosphere in a nicer room for less.
Motel 6 is very basic, but rooms are quiet!
Strat rooms are quite nice, esp if you get something above a premier tower room.
FWIW ... if this is your first time to Vegas ... in 4 days, you will not have much time to gamble!!
Sure .... have a go at the tables for a while, and the slots, but don't overdo it!! After all, ask yourself ... how did they build Vegas??? It wasn't on bank loans!!
If you want a good tip ... play $1 blackjack/ viedo poker and play 1 bet (i.e 25c).
That way you will get free drinks without spending much (if any).
Some bartenders will ask you to play max bet if you are asking for drinks, but I usually ask another bartender for drinks in that cas and end up getting it for free.
If your going shopping ... try Boulevard Mall ... lots of shops there!
And if you are nearby there, stop by at Moose's Beach House for lunch!!
It is more for the younger crowd, but beer is like $2, and lunch is HUGE!!!
Also, don't forget The Gun Store on Tropicana if you feel like firing a machine gun at a target!! It sure is different!!
All noted, thanks loads!! (ps, i LOVE gambling but im a right tight wad and only ever gamble small amounts, so will be sticking to cheap tables and slots!)

Flights are already booked... and completely non-cancellable unfortunately...
Belleclaire is on my shortlist at the moment, but is showing as very very expensive. Front runner by a mile is the Casablanca... through family recommendation AND reviews online... my husband wont let me look at any other hotel... hes fallen in love with that one <sigh> Its showing as £940 for 5 nights... dont know whether to leave it though to see if the price reduces (its only a small hotel, im guessing they may book up very quickly, especially at that time of year!)
thanks for the advice! xx0 -
If you can put up with the shared bathroom (shared with 2 other rooms) at the Belleclaire you can get 4 nights for £378 at end of Nov 2007.0

See you there.........booked this morning for Vegas leaving on 25 Nov!!! Took the Virgin Holidays package.......Nov is the cheapest month. Staying at The Mirage.....we decided against NYNY which was our original choice as we heard its looking a bit shabby, and the Mirage upgrade was only £30 each.lolamancity wrote:leaving for Vegas on 27th Nov
