delta flights to New York

I like many others to this site booked the £160 return flight to New York. However Delta haven't contacted me re £20 extra tax. (I fly out in March)
What's happening with this? Will I have to pay at Gatwick or should it be paid ahead of time.

I can't see it being a problem. Worst case scenario would be having to pay at check-in....

    I'm going in 4 weeks.

I must have missed something

Where did it say I had to pay an additional £20 tax?

If they haven't contacted you then I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm not & I've only just read your post about it :D

Has everyone else had to pay?

    :)

Perhaps we won't have to pay but as the flights were so cheap I thought it unlikely that Delta would absorb the cost like some other carriers such as BA.
If I have to pay I will but do like to know unavoidable costs before I set off on my hols and thought that other MSEs might have more knowledge than I do.

I'm sure you'll end up paying it. You could phone them to ask how it happens. You needn't give your name or booking reference if you don't want to risk rocking the boat!
  • Any update on this yet? I go next month.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!
  • I am due to go with Delta next week. I called them a few weeks ago to enquire about the extra tax and the lady on the phone said we will have to pay it, either call with c/c or pay at the airport on check in.
However I have since read that Delta are one of the airlines who are absorbing the extra cost. So I am going to just wait till I get to the airport.
Will happily report back on my return and let you all know.
Any spelling mistakes are entirely on purpose to check you're paying attention :p

No you won't, I have just booked a fare to Las vegas through the Delta website, I actually finalised it on the phone to them and asked about the tax, apparently it is included in the fare, they have been including it since January, if you have an e-ticket it does show the £40 GB tax on it.
  • I think though all the cheap NY fares like mine were booked back in September/October before the new tax was announced thats why we are unsure.

    They are very helpful.

Did you know that if you go the web site that you can check your reservation and choose your seats?

I picked my seats when I booked back in August. I used seat guru to find good ones. When I checked the flight yesterday there were only three seats available...except in first. I wonder what my chances are of an upgrade if they've overbooked.
