New Bank of Scotland account setup up in branch half the country away!?

Hi,
Quick question if you don't mind. I opened a Bank of Scotland Classic Account with Vantage online and have now received everything for the account but I noticed that my account has been setup for a branch in Aberfoyle of all places which is literally a million miles away from where I live and I can't understand this. I asked my local branch why it was setup so far away and not there and they just said they use a "cluster" of branches for accounts and that I must have been randomly picked for that branch. If you ask me, it seems a little strange... why give someone who lives where I do a bank account with a sort code for a branch over half the country away!? has this happened for anyone else?
John.

It is, if you walk it... in a kilt or about 30,000 square miles otherwise0 -
what difference does it make?0

Possibly because Aberfoyle (being a fairly small place) has a surplus of account numbers whereas more branches in more populous locations don't have spare account numbers - a bit like phone numbers.
With computers the idea of 'branch' is becoming redundant these days - it's not like you want to cash a cheque over your cheque card limit these days and only your home 'branch' has your signature on file.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
These days, your local branch is just a shop where you withdraw money or make deposits. Nothing more.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

Did you receive a cheque book? I live in England and apparently have to go in branch to activate a cheque book!
Nearest branch Annan!0 -
I opened an account for my granddaughter actually IN our local branch, and when the account sort code etc was sent to me, it indicated a branch in a village about 10 miles away, most odd!0

LBG seem to have put a Chinese Wall between BOS and Halifax so that only basic transactions can be undertaken in the other brand's branches. Halifax may be able to still order you a cheque book though.Did you receive a cheque book? I live in England and apparently have to go in branch to activate a cheque book!

BOS formally used Edinburgh George Street branch (80-46-35) for many online current account openings - would this have been any better?HappySaver1968 wrote: »Hi,

Just looked on Google Street View - looks a lovely little place, and quite a cosy branch!43580

I opened an online Halifax account and it got allocated to a branch I used to manage 15 years ago. Nowhere near where I live, but I did have an anciwnt account with 1p in it with the same sort code.
In the great scheme of things, it really shouldn't matter.0
