Morning DFW, hope you're well :)

I don't feel like I miss the OH, but my subconscious obviously does as I woke up during my nap yesterday cuddling my jogging bottoms :rotfl:I think I'm feeling better today though, although I woke up at 6.30am to my nose bleeding again, I don't even recall knocking it and the heating wasn't even on so no idea what's going on there.

I've already called my sister and my Dad and told them if they give me £1 each then they can have a case of cous cous, which they are happy to accept :) they don't have loads of money either. My AF order is due between 1430 and 1530, so I shall have a late lunch ;)

I've been a little naughty and ordered a few things most people would class as "wants" but I feel I need them for work so I think they're "needs" really. I've ordered a tv wall bracket so my tv can be moved onto the wall instead of the desk, this will free up space so I can start working on the desk instead of lying in bed when I'm working from home (most days now). I ordered the £51.99 tilt, swivel, in & out one so I can adjust the position of the tv for whether I'm in bed or on the sofa, and also for when I use the tv as a second monitor. I could have ordered the £17.99 one, but that didn't move at all and I thought that was a little restricting. I've also gone onto fleabay and won a powerline over ethernet twin set, which will mean I can link my tv, xbox, and laptop up with wires to the fast broadband limiting my reliance on the wireless. Yesterday I was on a conference call and my wireless cut out so many times I ended up dialling in on my mobile instead of my ip phone on my laptop. The powerline over ethernet cost £40, but will mean I have a more reliable connection, it will also mean I can watch catch-up tv on my tv again, something I've been missing since I moved. So although this is about £100 spent on "wants", it's the last pieces in the puzzle to make my room perfect.

Right, best get on with some work. Today is a NSD :D

    Morning you :-)

Sounds like you are keeping yrself very busy which is good. I cant believe them dogs are allowed in your room.. im starting to think its your housemate after yr chocolate lol and they are the scape dogs :D
Like you ISA's have no idea what happens to them at the end of the year. Wonder if they can just be kept in the account tax free as long as you havent exceeded the limit? Wonder if people get a monthly statement..
Can i ask where you get these online bulk buys? maybe i need 10 years worth of cous cous hehe :).. i would like to turn my down stairs cuboard into a pantry..so may start stocking up aswell xx

My housemate is vegan so can't eat my chocolate, and she's wheat-free so can't eat most of my food ;)
I started the "second purse" challenge thread on the OS forum at the beginning of the year and there's loads of links and ideas on there for where to get the best bulk buys. I use the rainforest (am4z0n) for most of my organic stuff, and the cous cous has come from appr0ved f00ds. I'm really pleased with my stockpiling as it's lowered the amount I spend on food each week, even if I then spend that money on something else instead oops.

ISAs, I read about these last night... what you do is you put up to your yearly total into the ISA until 5th April of that year. Then you start a new one on the 6th April, the best way is to shop around for the best ISA deal at the time so atm it's about 3%. The problem is that the banks are sneaky and for example you pay in your £5k for this year and then year ends, so your 3% on 10/11 drops to 0.1%. What you can do is transfer that amount, by calling the bank or filling in a form never, ever by withdrawing, and transfer to the current 11/12 best rate. You have to be careful though as some banks will charge you a transfer fee, so check this when opening the ISA and also check when opening the new one that they allow you to transfer in :)
I think I've got that right anyway. So as of 6th April I'm going to start an ISA for 11/12 and make sure I pay in the £5k as quickly as possible. I'm only going to go for the cash ISA, not the shares as I'm adverse to risk, even if it can make me the most money in the long-term I'd rather play it safe.

Hope that makes a bit of sense :)

  • Just a quickie about the ISAs.

You are allowed to save up to £5340 in a high interest account with the interest earned tax free each and every tax year.

I think you can put more in, but that will then be taxable interest. If you have saved £5340 in your ISA this year, then from April you can put in another 5340 tax free on top of that, so it all goes into the same pot, but it can only be the max amount in each year.

If you found another ISA account with a higher interest rate, you would need to apply to open one and tell them at the time of opening that you want to transfer your old ISA account savings to them. This means your money remains tax free even though you have technically opened a new ISA account.

I hope that sort of helps! The OH has money in ISAs and I had to figure it out to transfer it for him.

ETA: whoops, sorry... didn't see you had figured it out!

    Hi Kerri

Sainsbugs have got some of the Pizzazz Express 8" ones on BOGOF so they work out £2 each - there are passably healthy ones and 8" is OK for one... done in about 15 mins from frozen and much cheaper than a takeaway :)

Well I'm meant to be going wedding dress shopping with my housemate this morning, but it's raining outside, and I've just remembered I'm waiting for a delivery so can't go out until after that. Plus, I've realised I'm not actually that fussed on going wedding dress shopping anyway. Afterall, it's not something I'm likely to ever do as OH doesn't want to get married, and I don't really have much interest in the wedding anyway other than polite conversation. Does that make me a bad person? Oh and my housemate has left her phone at home, so when I answered it to one of her bridesmaids found out that both her bridesmaids are going to the first bridal shop with her when she'd told me only one of them was. So what's the point in me tagging along a bit later?

I think I shall wait for my delivery to arrive then go and hit up the gym. May as well make use of my £35 a month membership, the delivery is a good enough excuse for not going I think. Maybe I should have said to her before that I wasn't really interested in watching her trying dresses on? Oh well, I can't leave her dogs on their own anyway as one of them bit the others nose last night and she took her for an emergency trip to the vets for stitches. The bigger dog keeps trying to take the cone off her head if I leave them alone for two seconds.

I need to do some food shopping today, I need:
    - bananas
    - veg
    - chocolate
    - cucumber and stuff for falafel wraps

I think that's it, as I've got most of everything else that I need since I've got a massive stockpile of food :)

I'm a very, very bad DFW :( I am now banned from making any purchases that are not either
    a) food
    b) petrol
    end of.
I just bought myself a divan ottoman bed with a really good mattress for £1200 =| That's my £500 savings, £600 overdraft and £100 of my spending money gone. The only solace I have is that my room will be complete on the 21st of this month and I won't want for anything more. I'll have my tv on the wall, my sewing machine & overlocker setup for doing crafty things, my laptop setup for work, my stockpile all on shelves, powerline over ethernet giving me high speed broadband to my television for catch up tv, and loads of storage in my bed. I shall not want for anything else :) My main reason for buying it now was because I have 0% to pay on my current debts and I really do need a bed that's better than the one giving me a bad back at the moment. I know I can justify it however I want but I shouldn't be spending money whilst I'm in debt. I just needed things to be complete.

The thing is though I don't feel guilty for wanting my home to be as I want it, and although £1200 is a lot to spend on a bed and mattress, it is high quality and will last forever. I'd rather spend £1200 now, than spend £400-£500 3-4 times.

Anyway, I shall await the tellings off. If you want to look at the bed it's on the w4rr3n ev4ns website and it's the Windsor bed in chocolate under divan/ottoman without the headboard, the 3 girls and I decided we could get one cheaper on fleabay. Oh and that the organic mattress wasn't worth the extra £200 which could be spent in N3xt on lovely bedsheets, but that will definitely be when I am debt free as I already have sheets from next.

So... my debt is now £2180 but in 3 weeks time my room will be complete.

Oh and I need a bolt for the outside of my bedroom door to stop the dogs from coming in when my housemate goes for a shower when I'm out. I've noticed this is a reoccurring pattern, particularly when I have left chocolate on the side!

I've investigated saving accounts and need to sort out my ISA. I know it's a case of use it or lose it, but I definitely won't have £5k saved before April 5th so I will start my ISA from 6th April with the best buy at the time.

You don't need £5K saved. You can open an ISA with £5.68 if you wished.

    - eat breakfast
