2012 Frugal Living Challenge (Part 1)

Hello fellow frugallers:j
Just popping in from the 2011 challenge to introduce myself. Myself, OH [known on here as Mr GBT], the small person [13yo son] and Psychocat reside at Gnat Bottomed Towers.
Mr GBT was made redundant in 2005 and now runs his own microbusiness so I went from part time to full time and became the main earner but plans changed again this summer when I was made redundant. The cheque in settlement of our endowment came through on my last day and paid off our mortgage. After a few weeks of interviews I am now lucky enough to have two part time admin jobs on a self employed basis. Once again our income has taken quite a hit but having lived frugally for many years [I have inherited gnat bottomed genes from at least two generations ago] and having a partner who has a similar approach we have decent savings behind us.
My intention by joining again is to prove that I can survive and thrive on the money that comes in by living a simple life and enjoying simple pleasures. My plan is to remain part time so that I can use the free time more productively and for money saving pursuits.
Good luck to one and all- really look forward to reading all your posts.

Rictus123, you didn't respond to the questions I asked on page 20, that at least one other person has agreed with so far...
Again, my intention isn't to be rude or offend but you seem to have been posting for 2-3 years constantly saying your age and how much you plan to save....but all this time later there's still no savings...just don't like my time being wasted by constantly changing ideas/stuff that will never happen...perhaps I should use block facility...
ferox...if we don't have the facility to change our minds/ideas etc, what is the point of any of these boards??? Life doesn't always pan out the way that we intend - lets face it, if it did, how many of us would be on these boards at all? And yes, rictus is young....and which one of us didn't change our minds every couple of weeks when we had youth on our side??!! Why is your time being wasted? If you don't like what rictus has to say...don't read his posts...I don't see the problem personally....
I thought that these boards were for mutual support and encouragement....not for judgement and criticism.... I love coming on here and have learnt an awful lot from the people on here....some of which has influenced me to change or alter my plans.... does that mean that I am wasting peoples time?Mortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

dizzylizzie thanks for the idea of keeping the £50 in £1 coins ,this would be better because i can then just take a few quid out instead of a £10 note so less temptation, will get the money changed when bank opens, today only spent £2 on milk.
this will be first time in 10 years that i haven't worked on new years eve i used to work in a pub but what with trouble nearly every week decided to leave i miss the extra money but not the late nights,so i have cleaned right the way through when got in from work and shall have a quite night in with my Daughter and a bottle of wine,
Happy new year to all and shall see you all in 2012.

What a wealth of information and savings tips we have already - and we've still a few hours to go till 2012! Good luck to everyone, may we all save something this coming week/month/year, may those who are seeking jobs find them, may those who have jobs keep them, and, more than anything else, may ourselves and our loved ones enjoy Good Health!

Please can I join in? Not sure what my budget is at the moment - and I know that there is little point in sitting down and doing any form of planning just now as I am already a couple of glasses of wine into New Years Eve
- I will get a budget worked out tomorrow.
Happy New Year. Hope that this post makes sense (hic) :beer:0 -
