  • Hi Quintwins!

Yes its completely do-able, thats what myself and my husband have done this year. We have saved up all of our clubcard, nectar and boots points plus did online surveys for vouchers, and put them towards food/drink/gifts.

We also have a Morissons Christmas saving stamp card which we added £5.00 each to every month since January. Its a great weight off my mind not to have to worry about finding the money for Christmas now...im ready to enjoy the festive season! :T

Cherryjack Get some kind of heavy curtains up at those sash windows & as quintwins says put up a door curtain too - you'll be amazed at how much warmth they will keep in the house. I have an open plan kitchen/breakfast room/utility with a lot of (double glazed) windows but when the temperature drops I put a curtain across the arch to the utility & the heat it traps in really makes a difference

Thanks silvasava. You've reminded me to make a couple of sausage dog type draught excluders. Hopefully they'll keep a bit of heat in.

Hi all, i had a great night on saturday but it was far from frugal :( considering how often i go out spends weren't too bad :)

Got a £10 sainburys voucher from valued opinions so already £10 towards next xmas :)

My lovely son has locked my banking i don't like not being able to log on :(

It's really cold :( i've had my heat on for ages, i might give up and light the fire, my coals only £4.30 a bag and we got a ton of logs for £50 so i think that might be a cheaper option.

Eating out of the freezer this week, so tonighst tea is some lo chicken casarole with some frozen hm roasties and some mixed veg, lunch is mini scotch eggs and sausage rolls from the freezer with hm coleslaw.

I have a shopping trip next week, i will prob get free dinner out and i won't buy much because i have all my xmas shopping done, i'll get the kids some clothes using there birthday money so i won't be out of pocket much.

Hope everyones ok, it's got awful cold.

I went to the bun shop yesterday and spent £4.20 but thats all i spent all day and i did plan that so not too bad, today i need to go get firelighters i know in theory we don't need them but we ran out of kindling along time ago and it's far too cold for hubby to stand outside cutting more, so we've been lighting the fire with logs which won't light with just paper,a £2/£3 packet of firelighters will last me alot longer than a £3 bag of sticks , we could do with some eggs and fruit aswell i might nip into the farm shop and see if they have anything good.

We ended up with free dinner at the inlaws yesterday, so now i have some chicken left that we didn't use, i'm going to turn it into curry and have it with rice for lunch, ds isn't keen on curry so i'll make him a sandwichs, dinner is sausages mash and beans so nice and easy.I acually have loads of food i had to re-arrange my cupboards a few days ago and the amount of tinned oranges and rice pudding i have is shocking not to mention 2 freezers full, when i do a xmas shop i think i'll just focus of fresh items and drinks as really we don't need meat or tins.

  • OK - finally making progress with next years' budget and think I'm about there :) (as below) but wondering if I should be making some allowances for inflation etc?

These figures are pretty much based on what I've been paying this year ..... how much do you usually add on?

Any other thoughts on the budgets appreciated! TIA

  • Anyone any ideas what they're adding to their budgets for next year?

I'm still playing around with things but TBH I really can't afford increases (not a lot of wiggle room in the SOA) so think it might just be a case of having to be even more frugal!

    Bring it on!
