  • Blairweech - I posted the following for paid in chickens, when she lost her cat last year. I've been searching for it in my previous posts, and thought it might bring a bit of comfort to you.

    FOR PAIDINCHICKENS

That Grand Ol' Man of feline land
For one last time has licked your hand

For all his life, you've done your best
But now, at last, it's time for rest

Your heart is heavy, filled with sorrow
To know he won't be here tomorrow

But though today seems dark and grim
Think of the life you made for him!

Those kitten days when he was small
And huddled in a tiny ball

He grew and grew and fancy that
At last he was a proper cat!

At night he had his games and fun
And talk about the things he'd done! ;)

He lived a life of joy and glee
Oh yes! A proper cat was he

At times you'll sob, I'd even bet
Some "friends" might say - he's just a pet

But true friends know that he was more
    The loving fella you'd adore

So look at photos of your man
Think of good times, as best you can

For though you're feeling such despair
Unselfish love, like yours, is rare

It's sad that you have had to part
And sadder still, your breaking heart

Remember - through your grief and strife
You gave your cat a "purr-fect" life

    xx

aww SS that fab n even got a lump in my throat from reading it

  • AN ODE TO WORNOUTMUMOFTWO

The New Year dawned quite hopefully, with lots of plans and schemes
With modest hopes of frugaldom and not some fancy dreams

But just when things seemed promising, the clouds came into view
And life seems so unfair now for the worn out Mum of two

She has a little puppy, who seemed so bright and jolly
A happy, clever lively chap, a lovely border collie

But now he's very poorly and his walking isn't good
He limps instead of running, like a proper puppy should

Now vets bills are horrendous, as all pet owners know
But when your pet is poorly, then to the vet you'll go

Insurance, though it's helpful, won't cover every cost
And now our worn out Mum of two, is feeling low, and lost

We know we cannot help you, and make your puppy better
A rhyme or email cannot cure, nor can a note or letter

We haven't much to offer, just our support and prayer
But we are here, united, to let you know .................... we care :kisses3:

    xx

wow again SS you have such a way with words hun.

    Luv P

Found 2 whole celery heads and some left over gnarley stilton lurking in back of fridge and made a lovey celery and silton soup a la Delia Christmas - yum. Enough left to freeze too

Hi hope everyone's OK! :question:Toiletry question if anyone's up for it?
Have just spent a happy half hour sorting through toiletries as with my birthday being just after Christmas, this is the time of year where I'm overflowing with scented products (have no idea what everyone's trying to tell me !
:TGood thing: I can try a 'no buying toiletries in 2012' challenge (except for shampoo / conditioner and industrial detergent for OH apparently)
:( Not so good thing: I have no idea how long toiletries keep for. Seriously, I have stuff that's already from at least two birthdays / Christmases ago which I just haven't even started to use yet. I'm trying to use them in a rotation, but does anyone know how long toiletries 'keep' when they're unopened. I know there's the symbol that says 6M, 12M etc once they are open, but do they have a shelf life when not open? Don't want to end up smelling rancid!
    :undecided Advice gratefully received!

  • Habibiboo - many have a one/two yr shelf life before opening, it really depends on the brand.

May I suggest popping along to the 'no buying uneccessary tolietries in Jan' thread. The ladies on there are a fountain of knowledge. If you post a list of brands you have I'm sure many of us will be able to help!

  • Hi everyone, It takes me forever to catch up with everyone's post. I'm sorry to hear about your puppy wornoutmumoftwo, and I'm really sorry to hear about your cat blairweech. I also have very sad news as we had to put our boxer down last night. He had bad kidneys and was nothing but skin and bones. I'm very sad but I know he is in a better place. :( I need to revamp our budget now since it is all over the place with all the unexpected things. ♥ Have a frugal day ♥ I will try to keep up with you all :o

    AN ODE FOR MONEYBEAR

Now some of us grumble, cos we have the blues
But our troubles are nothing compared to your news

Your boy, so beloved, that you wanted to keep
Has at last closed his eyes, and he's drifted to sleep

Such an awful decision that you had to make
But so brave and heroic, for your Boxer Boy's sake

Your family know, it was all for the best
And you know in your heart it was time for his rest

It's a horrible thing, and believe me I know
To say "yes it's time for our doggy to go"

So look at your photos, when he was a pup
Remember those days, and then dry those tears up

The pain and the torment may have broken your heart
Cos you and your doggy, at last, had to part

But he's in doggy heaven, and chasing a ball
Cos you made the bravest decision of all

  • if ever there was any doubt that it is the small stuff that adds up - Im reading a book on saving money mainly just for a bit of support and inspiration, but one of the amazing points in it is that an airline (cant remember which one) saved £20,000 p/YEAR just by putting ONE less olive in the salads !!! amazing how the little changes add up to big things - that amazed me :)
