I am looking get contents insurance for my room. I rent 1 room in a property which has 4 other bedrooms rented by other people...I am a bit lost coz i tried confused.com and the questions they ask are just not relevant. like have you prev. had insurance ? etc...can anyone pls tell me who would be the cheapest provider in my case ? what would this sort of insurance be called where i need to cover :
a) just my property in my room in a shared 5 bedroom house.
b) my laptop, desktop comp.
c) mobile phones etc..
& bit & pieces...the total value probably comes to £3000-£3500 & no company does less than £11,000. pls advice...

Hi, they're not usually the cheapest but I know that Endsleigh insurance offer a specific insurance package for individuals living in shared accommodation as I used them for several years when I was sharing.0

Yeah I'd second Endsleigh. My premium's always been reasonable and most of the other insurers just get very confused when you try to get sharers' contents insurance. Handy shops in uni towns too, in case you need to discuss something with them.0

Are you a uni student living away from home, if so you parents home insurance may have an extesion for students personal belongings. But I agree Endsleigh are good for this type of cover.Skint Mummy0

Used Endsleigh when my son was at Uni (London - so premiums loaded a bit) for around £100.
But when he finished Uni and moved to a London flat I found Endsleigh were expensive (as he was no longer a Student) - and Liverpool Victoria much better for the style of living you've mentioned (just under £100 - for minimum £10k contents cover. But watch that 'personal possessions' such as laptop / mobile can bump that up)
Try a quote ? :-

just spoke to endsleigh insurance...it works out £288.73/year or £25.86/month with £57.10 deposit....the problem here is i have 4 mobile phones (2 are brand new) which even 2nd hand would cost a total of about £700-750 + my laptop as well...i think this hikes it all up.
i think £25/month is a very lot...do you all agree ?...cheers guys0 -

Too true it does!! As per my previous post :-But watch that 'personal possessions' such as laptop / mobile can bump that up
..... can't rationalise why someone would want to insure 4x mobiles concurrently. But they're high risk items therefore attract a high premium. Either get rid of them .... or accept insurance will be costly? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
