Prices are what i would charge , Seems fair enough
Heavy Travertine or stone tiles on Plaster is a no no
I would ask for Tanking aswellHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Thanks for your reply Andy. What surface should stone tiles go on then? The company should, hopefully, know what they are doing as have good reputation locally. Also what is tanking?! Thanks!0

Travertine can be fitted to plasterboard as long as it is left unskimmed. This applies to 10mm/12mm thickness
Some premium Travs need cement board or Wedi which can take 40kg+ per sqm
Tanking
Do i search for Homelux wall matting or Dura Ci, Any decent installer should always tank as grout and adhesive does not form a water tight barrierHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Thanks for the advice, I will investigate!0

to expand on andyhops answer a bit - its the weight of the trav that makes it unsuitable for fixing to plaster. You need to know the weight of the tile per m2 (whatever it is) and then deduct 4kg m2 for adhesive.
Plasterboard (unskimmed) can take a max weight of 32kg m2, most backerboards such as wedi/no more ply can take 50kg.
You only need to tank if you use plasterboard - its to waterproof the area as even waterproof grouts\adhesives let water through, they just dont degrade.
They should be using a powdered, cement based adhesive for anything greater than 300x300 not ready mixed tub stuff. if you use trav, make sure its white not grey.
Watch out when you source the trav (if you use it) theres a lot of crap out there, get a sample and turn it over - make sure its not full of voids or more filler than travertine.
Andys reply is bang on, just thought a bit of depth may help you some more.0 -
Many thanks for the advice guys. I have to say I'm beginning to worry about getting travertine at all if it's so much potential trouble, it does look nice though!0

am interested as also getting quotes for my shower room. does these quotes include supply of shower tray, screen etc or are you sourcing those yourself?0

Know what you mean though. It looks lovely, but unless it is sealed properley it can stain.
My OH's sister got travertine in her kitchen, she is sorry the day she did, forever scrubbing at them to keep them clean.
Have you not thought of travertine looking ceramic instead? Travertine is also very fragile/chalky too. In Fireplaces it is backed with hessian and resin to make it stronger. Fitters were going out with fireplaces, when they first started coming into the country and were coming back to me with bits in their hands. At least ceramic would be coated/sealed0
