Wood Vs uPVC front door for security?

We were considering changing our front door from the current wooden one to a uPVC one to match the rest of the house but I'm concerned that the uPVC style doors offer less security.

We're one of a number of streets that has their lights off after midnight in our area and there have been a couple of reports of scum selecting the UPVC front doors over the wooden ones so its put me off..

Also we have a 5 lever deadlock and a Yale barrel lock on our current wooden door-does this sound like enough security.?

What do you guys think?

  • UPVC are as safe as they should be. If you are worried, you should opt for the composite doors which are much more secure. Expect to pay around £700-£900 including fittings.

  • A quality plastic, timber or composite door are as good as each other, and it is misleading to think that a door is insecure when in reality the weak points are the frames, glass or door panels

And if not the front door, then there is always a way in via the back door or an adjacent window
