fashionworld

have been using these people to buy stuff and found that i was paying ppi on my payments i sent them a email asking about this and they said

Your Fashion World account was originally opened in September 2004 and
shortly after that you received a telephone call offering our Personal
Account Protection policy (then called the Peace of Mind Plan). I notice
from looking at your account that orders were not placed on the account for
a number of years until January 2009 since when you have been trading with
us continuously.

The policy will have been activated again once there was a balance on the
account as it provides the following cover and premium is only charged
where there is a balance to protect:

1. Unemployment/Disability cover - monthly account payments made in the
event of being unable to work due to unemployment or sickness for more than
28 days.
2. Life cover - the outstanding account balance covered in the event of
death.
3. Critical Illness cover - The outstanding account balance covered in
the event of being diagnosed with specified critical illnesses i.e. stroke,
heart attack, cancer etc.
4. Accidental Death cover - £5,000 lump sum paid to a customer's estate
in the event of their death in an accident.
5. Purchase Protection cover - accidental damage, fire and theft cover
for all catalogue purchases for 5 years from date of purchase.
6. Access to a free legal helpline for assistance with personal legal
issues.

Please note for customers who do not work the unemployment/disability cover
is replaced with Hospitalisation where twice the outstanding balance of the
account would be paid in the event of going into hospital for 7 days or
more.

The premium charge has been shown on each statement sent to you since
January 2009 and to date you have been charged £80.59.

Please confirm whether you wish to have this policy cancelled.

Yours sincerely

Pippa Dutton
so i then sent them another email stating i wanted this stopped as i do not remmeber agreeing to it and asked for a refund.
so they sent me another email replying
I confirm that the policy has been cancelled as requested.

However, we will not be offering a refund of premium as you have already
benefitted from this cover.

Kind regards

Pippa Dutton

    Hi there

When the say that you have benefitted from the cover, did you ever make a claim for anything?

Even though, I understand a reclaim can still be made, depending on what reasons you have, as it may have covered you for one thing and not the other, however, the amount of PPI then due will be reduced if some was also used on a successful claim.

If your not sure on this, I would write to them again and ask in what way did you benefit from the cover, and if you've not made a claim, make it clear that this is not the case.

Keep at them and in the final decision they should also confirm if your eligible to complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) or not.

    Good luck.

Definately write back and tell them, you don't believe your complaint's been investigated properly and that they have got this wrong, as no claim was ever made on the account/insurance, so you are asking if they will re-look into the case with the reasons you have previously given.

    Good luck.

  • Fashionworld have now replied to my latest email
We have given you a full explanation as to how and why the insurance policy
was added to your account. This is our final response to this matter and
we will not be offering a refund of premium.

If you are not satisfied with this response, you do have the option of
referring your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service within 6 months
of receipt of this email, however as the date of the sale of this policy
took place before they took over jurisdiction for general insurance of this
type, in January 2005, they may not be able to assist you.

    Their details are given below:

    Financial Ombudsman Service
    183 Marsh Wall
    London E14 9SR Tel: 0845 080 1800
    https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk

If you have access to the internet there are full details of how to
complain on their website should you wish to take it further, but in the
meantime we attach their leaflet for your information.

We will consider this complaint closed if we do not hear from you within 8
weeks of receipt of this letter.

    Yours sincerely

    Pippa Dutton
