Hi
My son finished uni this year, today we received a letter that he was over paid a grant of £3000 and demanding repayment now for this money whcih he doesn't have.I was unemployed 2009 and we assumed the additional grant was for this as the family income was done from the previous year.
Anyone had a issue like this?

yes i did, although not for that much
i came to an arrangment to pay it back over a certain number of months, after ringing them and explaining my incoming money to my outgoings!
they came up with a figure which was lower than i was expecting too, £20 per month with a freeze on interest.
so ye phone the number on the letter, and i hope you get the same person over the phone as me , as they will help you :-)0 -
Firstly make sure you do need to repay the money. Same way they can make mistakes calculating the amount they gave out in the first place, they could be making a mistake now. Give them a ring and you should be able to set up some kind of sensible repayment plan. When I'd taken an overpayment, they accepted £5 a month towards it for a while. As long as you don't ignore it they should be quite reasonable with you.Sealed Pot Challenge #239
