Dave - you aren't the only one!!0

Thanks for the link but has any one actually tried payin by switch it is actually impossible. There is not enough space on the "Card. no." line.0
-
I think the switch link is new as I ordered mine on Friday and there was not a link to pay online so I phoned the no instead to order.0

My daughter has a spare one if anyone would like to swap it for a different one?0

i have managed to get my daughter 6 different coloured bands so far - all off ebay for under £3 each - they are going for stupid amounts, but, ive been lucky.....the one mentioned above is listed in ebay at £0.99 (hundreds listed) and post and package is only £1 - all money goes straight to oxfam, so may be better doing it this way.....0

If you want to help the charity that's great but I don't see how wearing a wristband will do that
donate the £1.50 + the postage directly to them and save them the bother and expence of making and posting 50,000 bands out
People don't like to give away money, even for a worthwhile cause. Anything that makes this process easier is a Good Thing.
If you wear the wristband, it's an advert that says two things.
1) It's an advert for you that says you're generous & caring enough to give to charity :A . (And there is *nothing* wrong with saying that about yourself.)
2) It's an advert for the charity, that lets everyone know how many other people are prepared to support it.
(Besides all that, I think they look kinda smart....)

I would seriously doubt whether your average eBay seller would actually give all their money to the MakePovertyHistory charity - it just seems too unlikely.
If you're happy *not* to save that 50p, you can buy direct and be 100% confident that your money will go to the right place...

AFAIK there are very few 'genuine' bands out there; a lot of people are looking to make money out of 'the trend' - check out ebay.
If you really want to give to charity ( and to make sure that all of the money you give gets there) then why not donate directly. In addition why not help the charities to get the Gift Aid contribution from the government - it's free.
Someone has done an excellent job of expaining how the gift aid works, but can't lay my hand on it (will re-post if I
do)
BTW - I'm not saying that the organisation mentioned in the OP is not genuine - it certainly looks the genuine article; it's a dot org, it says it a registered charity (and also a limited company?),it's got a professional website and it's got pictures of celebrities on it wearing an armband, and it's get a helpline and it takes switch.
On a separate issue one of the big charity scams is 'charities' who are really limited companies who collect and then deduct 'administration and salary costs' from the donations, and as a result as little as 1p in the donated pound gets to charity.
All of this may make me sound very anti-bands, etc - all I'm saying is be careful of who you give your money to (be it shop or charity) (isn't that the MSE ethos).0 -
Completely Agree with theonlyrick the bands are an excellent idea IF you buy them from where they are meant to be bought from. I made a packet on ebay selling the original nike basketball ones these were not for charity just for nikes coffers.Could have sold my bully one for £20 but i find this unethical the bully, racism, cancer poverty bands bring up the discussion of these issues (must be a good thing)
Also
I work for a youth organisation who are a registered charity and a company limited by guarentee (LTD) think people need to know that just because you are limited doesnt mean you make profit, all is explained on charity comission website.
I hope more charities jump on the bandwagon (maybe comic relief should have done oneWell, you can tell by the way I use my walk
