                    Hi,
I'm after some advice and guidance if possible please.
I bought an acer notebook just before Christmas last year, a day after Chistmas day the screen bled and was unusable. It was taken back to HMV and swapped out straight away.
The notebook has been in use now for 11 months, then 2 days ago the screen has bled again, not as bad as before, up in the top corner but is as good as useless.
Took it back to HMV yesterday only to be told that as the fault was either accidental damage or misuse, there was nothing they could do.
I did have a search on here, and also on the one show website coming across some info and a video from Dom Littlewood.
Essentially it says that within the first six months the fault is deemed to have been there since it was shipped from the manufacturer so the retailer is liable, however after six months I have to prove that it is faulty?!
HMV's returns policy also states that they will not accept returns as a result of accidental damage or misuse.
I have tried to read up on consumer rights and the sales of goods act, but it's a bit of a mine field.
Could someone please advise on the best course of action, if any?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Pat.

Your preliminary investigation is correct. You now need to prove that the fault was inherent (there at point of manufacture) and not due to damage.
There are lots of independent repair shops that should be able to help, you may have to pay for the report cost upfront but HMV should refund this if the report finds in your favour.Thinking critically since 1996....0

But it's important how the report is worded. It needs to state (or at least infer) that the failure was due to an inherent fault. It's not enough just to confirm that it is faulty.0

Most electrical goods should come with a manufacturers warranty which is usually 12 months. It may be worth chasing this route first before taking it to an independent repair shop.0
