Furniture village deposit

I hope someone here can help me to see If I have a leg to stand on.....
I purchased a sofa in store at furniture village and was told I had to pay a £250 deposit to secure the sofa ad the remaining I was going to take out the 0% finance a couple of days past I received a call to say it was declined which I couldn't understand with an excellent credit score and never had any negatives to my name. I said I would contact the company to find out why and the reason has never been given apart from being told to contact experian which I already had. I can't raise the funds until my house sale and purchase has completed due to hidden fees.
Today I called furniture village to be told I cant have my deposit back which I have argued as I would have never agreed withthe purchase if I knew the credit would have been declined now leaving me £250 out of pocket.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Nick

I'm not sure where you stand re. your deposit (hopefully others can help) but I'd certainly be trying to find out why the credit's been refused. What did Experian say?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Fluff,
I was told to get a report for a reason why, but I can't see a genuine reason why. The only thing that I can see is that I have had 2 searches on my name from applying for a new mortgage which is currently going through.
Something,
Thanks for the link, the problem I have is I did pay a deposit to show the commitment to buy but under the terms o getting credit which was refused after I paid a deposit.0 -
Then you need to write to them demanding your deposit back. If you read the link carefully you can see that they are not entitled to arbitrarily retain your deposit as it would amount to a financial penalty.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Ask them how they've incurred 250 quid's worth of losses. Ask for a written breakdown of their admin costs, storing this item, etc. in terms of the processing they've done on this order. They won't be able to provide this (because your placing this order and then subsequently not being able to conclude the deal hasn't cost them £250), and hence they're not entitled to keep all your money.
