Are Child Tax Credits included in my Income Support?

I was recently told I was entitled to CTTs and the helpline confirmed this and sent me a claim pack which I have recieved.

Looking through my Income Support details (I have been claiming since 2001 and have a 13 year old) I now think the CTTs may be included with the Income Support which is how it was setup before 2003 I believe.

I get £312.00 Income Support every fortnight (a higher rate already as my son gets DLA). Does that sound like CTTs are included?

The CTT helpline person was of the opinion that I wouldn't have been sent a claim pack if I wasn't eligible, and he didn't want to hear about the Income Support amount that I recieve. I called the Income Support helpline but gave up after listening to awful muzak for 30 minutes.

Do I already get what I'm entitled to? I'm afraid of claiming a benefit incorrectly and geting billed for it in the future.

before tax credits came in, kids were included on income support claims. most switched to ctc but some didn't ( no idea why)
but the amount you get looks like it includes your son.
do the benefits checker at entitledto to check what youre getting is right.
  • Do you get Carer's Allowance for caring for your son?

My IS is £86 a fortnight - IS+ carer's premium (about £31), then minus £55 Carer's Allowance. I also get £180 a week CTC - this is for two children. One of my children receives the disabled child element and the severely disabled child element of CTC.
  • Yes I get £312.00 a fortnight IS (it went up after my son starting getting DLA), on top of that my son has £275.40 a month DLA and I get £55.55 a week CA (plus £81.20 a month CB).

Thanks! I just did a couple of these calculators and though they both gave me slightly differing amounts it's seems to be in the same area, so I think everything is fine.
