Find telephone number?

Is there anyway to find out a phone number given a specific address?

I have a phone number for the new property i'm moving into, but I think that this hasn't been service for some time.

I know from my recent visit that there is a working telephone there, so it's just a case of the owner changing the line/number

The problem is the agent/landlord only has the non-working number

Plug a phone in at the property, dial 147017070 and listen.

You should hear, "This circuit is identified as ......."
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
