Why would paypal investigate a payment?

I would just return the payment, don't care what Ebay rules say to be honest too risky letting someone collect and paying with Paypal
Unfortunately you really only get to do that once- after that your account is it tatters and you are well out of pocket
You return the payment so can't open an NPB to reclaim your fees so end up with the FVFs. The buyer leaves a neg and poor stars.
It is probably best to understand the risk and decide whether or not ebay is really the right venue- or whether it might be better selling it somewhere else.
I do sell things that need collection and yes I have on rare occasions had to take paypal. However I am careful in what I list and understand the risks i take. Things I am not comfortable in risking I sell elsewhere.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. When I went into my paypal account it says payment held, and in the dispute section, email sent to seller.
I never received the email.
The buyer is a 0 profile, do paypal make random checks on new account holders?
Is it because the buyers address is a brain injury unit in a hospital...
Well then the payment was released and I posted the item. Today I get the message that there is a chargeback on that payment!
Should not have sent it, the address was a bit odd!0 -
Try contacting the buyer as they may not recognise the payment on their bank or credit payment statement.
If you can't resolve you might want to consider refunding anyway. I got hit with my first chargeback recently and not only did they refund the buyer but took a fee for the chargebook (£7 I think). I have a feeling if you refund, you don't have to pay the fee but not sure about that. The annoying thing for me was that it was an overseas order that a couple of weeks later came back as undeliverable because the address the buyer had given was incomplete! If they had contacted me directly about not receiveing their order it would have been better for me! Anyway, that buyer is now blocked!0 -

You do pay the fee - a buyer paid twice by mistake and due to 'issues' with her account I could not refund payment for one of the items.
I then got 2 chargebacks and when I accepted liability and refunded one of them immediately I got the extra £7 charge.
Luckily I managed to win the 2nd chargeback so not too out of pocket...0 -
