Just about all the younger people I know who are doing well for themselves (buying a house, BMW etc) seem to be self employed builders.

Ill let the lads at work know.

Most are getting to the stage were they will not be able to insure their van next year never mind a bmw.

I do remember the days when our customers had money to spend though, sadly those days are gone for a good few years yet.

    London.

May be something to do with it, a lot of people are paying 400 or 500 pounds a month less than they expected on the mortgage and are using some of it on home improvements.

The guys that are making a few quid have tended to set up their own firms.

Think there is a big difference between construction and just jobbing builders doing relatively small jobs such as small extensions, new bathrooms etc

Unemployed here. I also don`t see things improving much. At least I don`t have to exist on £65.50 a week as I am not well. Just imagine some other folk. The mortgage, kids, and other commitments. How the heck they get by is a mystery.
