Holiday entitlement for a part-timer

We are closed all BH.
You still don't get it.
if you only do one day a week even if you were open you could not do all BH every year
Some weeks have more than one BH.
So back to your original statement
Having eight Bank Holidays, and working just one day a week how many days of paid leave will that person have if BH will always fall on his work day? And how many days of holiday in a year at all?
Am I right saying that will be paid for 5.6 weeks and 2.4 days unpaid leave?
Thanks
You would never(most years) normal have been working all 8 BH.0 -
5.6 weeks is based on working 46.4 weeks so if they work less they are due fewer holidays0
-
But if holidays are pro rata, shouldn’t the BH be calculated the same way, I mean 8/5?
Nope - not if the bank hols are included in the 5.6 weeks [and hence 5.6 days] as they are already pro-rata-ed.
If the bank hols are above the 5.6 weeks/days - then yes.
What's the answer you want; then perhaps we can find a way of making it fit?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I am still trying to take it all in. Thank you for contribution, I’m really grateful. Basically I want to work out the way of calculation holiday entitlement for a person working part-time, where BH are included. I probably came up with not the best example which, I now must admit, makes an impression that I split hair.
Anyway, there’re six BH in England in 2011 falling on Monday. Working only Mondays you can’t take any days off of your choice, and you will use up your 5.6 days of hals. which may seem to be a bit unfair as opposed to someone doing Thursdays, though.
I think I got there in the end, and it seems pretty straightforward now.0 -

Yes - this is a problem if you are a PT-er and working only Mondays.
You will have the SAME NUMBER of days off, so it's legally correct, but you will have LESS CHOICE about when to take the days. Someone working only Wednesdays will have a lot of flexibility with their leave. Someone working Mondays is likely to have very little flexibility - esp if New Year and Christmas Day falls on Monday, then you're pretty much screwed on any choice at all...!' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I worked PT for 16 years for a LA and when I first went part time they didn't really have a system for dealing with BH. I knew that some PT in other sections who worked Mon/Tue/Wed were taking the full bank holiday in addition to their annual leave entitlement while no one would opt to work the end of the week. I opted to work Wed/Thur/Fri and then demanded my BH pro-rata to the hours I worked. i.e I worked 20 hours so had 20/37th of a BH (4 hours) and I took it in lieu.
They sorted out a proper system eventually so BH are pro-rata and you have to adjust your AL upwards/downwards depending on when BH fall.

I think the point is that if you work Mondays only, there is no effective AL - it all gets eaten up on Bank Hols; so no adjustment up or down allowed. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
The problem is that if the number of days/weeks you won't work is more than 5.6 your statutory holiday allowance goes down.
When full timers get statutory 5.6 weeks one of the easiest ways do do part timers is to use the 12.07% method and use hours/days/weeks worked whichever fits the work pattern best.0
