Holiday entitlement for a part-timer

I work full time, and have 5.6 w (8 BH inc.) of holiday entitlement (standard contract for all of us, pro rata for part-timers). My colleagues work less, but at least 2 days a week. But what if someone starts to work just one day? Having eight Bank Holidays, and working just one day a week how many days of paid leave will that person have if BH will always fall on his work day? And how many days of holiday in a year at all?
Am I right saying that will be paid for 5.6 weeks and 2.4 days unpaid leave?
Thanks

If they only work one day a week they cannot work all the BH every year

None of us is working on BH. we get paid for them. Even if BH falls on working day, we do not work.

if someone wrks for 1 day only they are entitled to 5.6 days leave which can be rounded up to 6, if their working day was monday then their holidays would come off the bankholidays and they would only be entitled to be paid for 6 of them.

    Ok

If you only normaly work one day a week you can't not work all the BH every year.

    We are closed all BH.
  • This information is from the Direct.Gov website My calculator reckons you should have 6.6 days holiday (1 x 5.6 = 6.6)
    Part-time workers

If you are a part-time worker, you are still entitled to 5.6 weeks' holiday – 5.6 of your normal working week. For example, if you work two days a week you would be entitled to 11.2 days' annual leave a year:
    2 days x 5.6 weeks = 11.2 days

You should be treated no less favourably if you are a part-time worker than an equivalent full-timer. This means that if your employer gives extra days off to full-timers they may have to give extra time off to part-time workers as well.

If you are closed for all Bank Holidays, and they fall on the day that you work, because the BH are included in your holiday entitlement they you need to book them out of your holiday entitlement.

For example, if someone worked only on a Monday, then they would be entitled to 5.6 days (5.6 weeksx 1 day: a day being however many hours they normally work in a day) per year, and may therefore not have enough holidays to book and be paid for all BH, or be left with no floating holidays.

There should be something in your terms stating how BH are dealt with. Do they present you with holidays to book as total 5.6 weeks, or do they automatically deduct the BH before you receive them?

You have the right idea about 8 bank holidays meaning 5.6 days paid and 2.4 unpaid, but you are forgetting that you will always have Good Friday, and the Bank Holidays at Christmas will never fall on the same days, so it is impossible to work a regular day per week and it always fall on BH.

Yes, usually. Or they could work 2.4 days to make up the time.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

But if holidays are pro rata, shouldn’t the BH be calculated the same way, I mean 8/5?

If the bank holidays are included in the total payment ie 5.6 weeks, which you say they are, then they are already pro-rata'd down.
