PPI Claim

Hi all,
I took out a secured loan in May 04 which I am still paying and is due to finish in Mar 12 (of which I am in arrears, but am paying back at double and a bit more of the instalments), so by Mar it will be just about paid back in full.
The loan had PPI with it.
I thought it was free with the loan.
I have a current medical condition prior to the loan being taken out.
The PPI was only for the first 3 years of the loan not for the full duration, but when the PPI cover stopped, the loan repayment did not reduce (I think I am paying for the PPI over the duration of the loan 7.5 years??)
Thinking about using one of these PPI reclaim companies????
Just want to add it is with Ascenden/London Mortgage/Capstone or whatever they are calling themselves now!

Why? Do you have a problem putting stamps no envelopes that require you to pay someone to do that for you?
You have one of the easiest complaint reasons going. You dont need a claims company to post the form that you complete and then take 25-40% plus VAT on the redress payment.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hi
Do you realise you do not have to use a claims company to do this for you?
Its only a matter of completing a reclaim questionnaire, and save a copy for yourself.
You will not have to pay out if you do this for yourself and get to keep your full ppi refund.
And less paperwork involved, and claims companies do it no quicker.
The reclaim questionnaire is on step 3 below.
Good luck.

How long ago did these accounts close?
If within the last 6 years, even if they were paid off within the last 6 years they should still hold data on these accounts.
Firstly, try the free way, contact them direct and give them as many details as possible.
If you know though that you were paying for PPI and mis sold, and still have hold of the account numbers - you can still make a reclaim.
But if you require the details anyway, you can optionally request a Subject Access Request (SAR), there is a letter for this below link if you want to use that, where they have 40 calendar days to comply and send all details they still hold.
You have to enclose £10 cheque or postal order for this request, if they're unable to provide you with anything, they must write to let you know and return your payment.

Another way is to request a Credit Report, they normally hold details of all accounts you have - over the last 6 years, this you may get free for 30 days, or you pay £2 for a full credit report, you can try Equifax, Experian, there are more, so google in Credit Reports and see what they offer.
To make a reclaim, as shown on step3 is the reclaim complaint questionnaire, below.
Complete, send to the head office or complaints of whoever set up and sold you the accounts.
Save copies for yourself as well.
Hope this info helps, good luck.

Thanks for the info Di, once again you are a true gem ion this site! I think these credit cards ended June 2006. So not sure if I would have a case. I'll go down the route of credit expert first and foremost to see what I can retrieve.:T0 -

There is no requirement for them to do so.Firstly, try the free way, contact them direct and give them as many details as possible.

That makes sense but it assumes there really was PPI AND that it was missold. With no records, that will be difficult to show. But if you require the details anyway, you can optionally request a Subject Access Request (SAR), there is a letter for this below link if you want to use that, where they have 40 calendar days to comply and send all details they still hold.
Actually, they are only required to provide what a reasonably competent temp could find.
From what has been posted, I think that may be difficult.0 -
I did not use a PPI claim company, I did it myself, the form is very easy you will ever fill in, I have been sucessfull with one and waiting on another also helping 2 others with claims against Welcome. Save your money take your time and do it yourself

Thanks Topjack, I've filled my forms out and sent them off to HFC, MBNA and EGG - With HFC I have all the information, MBNA & EGG - I have partial Information, i'm just hoping that it's enough for them. (However MBNA - do not require Policy/Account details). Fingers Crossed!0 -
Completed my questionnaire.
Have not got the PPI account number.
Who do I send the questionnaire to, the loan was completed with Norton Finance, then London Personal Loans issued the loan, it then went to Matlock Bank, then to Capstone and it is now with Ascenden.
The PPI was covered by Sterling Life Limited and Sterling Insurance Company.
Where do I send my questionnaire??0 -
BTTT - Anyone???0
