Stuck with what present to buy for 16 year old boy?

I have been racking my brains to no avail, I am completely stumped what to get my brother for Christmas. He doesn't live near enough to see often sadly and although we make the effort to talk I don't really know what he would like.

He is a typical 16 year old, into computers and computer games (very much so) he likes his gadgets and that's about it that I know of. He doesn't have any other hobbies I know of. He sometimes plays football with our other brother when he sees him but again I think it's more a bonfing thing than an interest.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I have found the rest of my family easy enough to buy for, it's the last present I am stuck with :(

  • have you discounted giving him money? i've always found teenagers to be avid collectors of pics of the Queen
  • If you really want to give him something that he wants, I would wrap up cash in an imaginative way, so you are still putting effort in.

Is he going to college? maybe another good thing could be a data pen again wrapped up in a nice way?

Or you could do a movie night hamper with popcorn, 1 or a couple of films, some soft drinks, malteasers etc?

depends on how much you'd like to spend?

for teens we buy things like
    itunes vouchers
cinema voucher (put in a gift bag with some popcorn/fizzy drink)
vouchers for an activity day paintballing ect

its a difficult age and tbh most of the time they'd prob prefer money/vouchers so they can get something they really want
this year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk

When DS2 was 16 his sister bought him his first decent aftershave which went down well. The Paul Smith ones are great for younger men - not too expensive and a big step up from Lynx!
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't want to give money or vouchers because with three other siblings already bought for, they would probably want vouchers instead too and wonder why they got preferential treatment. I prefer the 'value' of the gift to not be so obvious, I'm sure no one does but I always worry that people question the value of others gifts and how much was spent on them.

I like the idea of a mini movie hamper is brilliant, if I do one for him though I will have to do one for my sister (17) as they are like peas in a pod lol. I already have a makeup set for her though. I can't do a makeup hamper for her as I have planned to do a big beauty hamper for her 18th.

Maybe I could rejig some presents around as they might enjoy a movie night on boxing day to wind down. Could put in some snowman soups too as they are big kids at heart.
