Amazon: Long delivery times for monitors (any experience of how long)

Thinking of buying a monitor from Amazon.
But most of the monitors I am looking at either state...
"Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months" or
"Usually dispatched within 4 to 7 weeks"

I nearly always pick "super saver delivery" and often they are next day with estimated delivery nearly always much better than stated.

Has anyone ordered anything with a long delivery time, and if so how long has it taken?

IIRC Amazon often continue to list monitors that are no longer in general supply (they don't delist them as they've not been told by the manufacturer they are out of production), but might still have stock in a warehouse somewhere - even if it's in an EU wide warehouse (a lot of manufacturers have a main warehouse in mainland Europe which they ship stuff to the smaller warehouses/distribution centres in individual countries).

I think those listing ETA's are based on what the manufacturer or distributor has told them to expect, and without knowing the models I suspect most people can't help as it varies so much.
For example I've had stuff listed at 3-4 weeks that has shipped a day or two later, and other times I've had items that were 3-4 days take a month (and I've got a graphic novel that was solicited for this week months ago and meant to be delayed to January ship last night).

Amazon tend to be very much at the mercy of the distributors when it comes to stuff they don't physically have in their warehouse when you order (and most retailers don't hold much if any stock of most monitors as their value goes down too quickly).

Amazon do answer queries personally (no robo arm ! lol ); try sending them an email re which particular model and they might give u a more accurate response time . Personally i like ordering from Amazon -- they've always been good to me .

Will probably pick that one, Amazon is cheaper and I have vouchers.
As long as it is delivered by Christmas that will be fine.

    I'll email them as well.

Just to let you know that it is coming sooner than expected (as expected)

    ""ViewSonic VX2253MH-LED 22 inch LED Wide Screen Monitor - (VGA, HDMI, 1920 x 1080, 16:9, 5m/s, 1,000:1/30,000,000:1, 250 cd/m², Built in Speakers)"
    Previous estimated arrival date: December 09 2011 - December 20 2011
    New estimated arrival date: November 28 2011 - November 29 2011"

Order was placed 17th November, and is still showing as 1 to 2 months for delivery on the Amazon website for new buyers.
  • Was delivered yesterday.

So ordered 17th November, and was delivered 24th November - only 7 days in total

And it is still shown 1 - 2 months for dispatch time on website (for the Amazon one that I ordered)

The good thing is, is that you are only billed when the item is about to be dispatched, not when you order it, and you can cancel easily if you find a better deal elsewhere.

I've noticed this before with Amazon .. the incredible shrinking delivery time!

It's better than being the other way around I suppose ...

A big thumbs up from me for buying things like this from Amazon.

When my 6-month old Acer monitor failed, acer wanted me to send it back to them before they'd send out a replacement - so I'd have been without for a week or so (and also needed to find some packaging, as I'd thrown the old packaging away).

I phoned amazon and they delivered a new one next day, and arranged for a pickup of the old one a few days later - so I could use the packaging.
