Best place to sell Myth and Magic ornament collection?

Thought I'd try asking to see if anyone has any advice... I have loads of Myth and Magic ornaments to sell, and I'd rather sell them as a job lot than as individual pieces. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could advertise them? I was wondering about local auction, but I've no experience in that at all, or maybe try the local free ads? Does anyone know if there's a myth and magic collectors site at all, I tried google but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for your help!

Selling the whole lot in one joblot may not fetch as much as you want though.

The market for the figures has really declined. I used to collect them myself and only this Spring bought a large box of them (all in original boxes) for £30. There were about 16 of them in the box- which even with buyers premium meant i was paying less than £2 a model. However it meant that with sellers premium the poor seller probably got a little over £1 each.

I think the market has deteriorated even more since then as I have tried selling on a few of the duplicates and rarely make more than a couple of pounds on ebay or even less at a car boot.

Shame as the early ones are really lovely.

You could try them on ebay, it's free listing this weekend so nothing to lose. Just remember good photos and accurate postage costs- they are surprisingly heavy! Some of th eolder ones do still fetch good prices- I sold a very early dragon one for £10 - the later ones tend not to sell at all so check the completed listings.

  • Ok, well I guess I might as well give ebay a try if there's free listing next weekend, and just put a few on - see what happens! I do have a few of the really early pieces as well as limited edition / collectors club ones (most '95-03ish), but I agree the ebay prices aren't great at the moment, which is why I was wondering if there were other options. I'd quite like to fund a new laptop from selling them... fingers crossed!

  • Good luck trying to sell them. I managed to sell mine on ebay, about 10 years ago, and managed to get really good prices for them. Unfortunately, as Soolin said, the markeet seems to have died at the moment. If you look at the completed listings, there are loads of them and most haven't sold.

I have a similar issue with David Winter Cottages. I used to collect them and must have spent a few thousand pounds in total. Now, with a family, space is at a premium and other than a few special or sentimental ones, I want to get rid of them. Again, about 10 years ago, I managed to sell one on ebay that I'd found at a market and paid £1.50 for, and it went for £120! But now you can't give them away for love or money. I've just checked the completed listings and noticed a very rare one which, in their hayday, used to sell for several thousand pounds (no joke), and it went for a fiver! Most others remained unsold.

By all means try a few on a free listing day, but other than that, it might be better putting them into storage in your loft if you have one and wait. You never know, they might become popular again one day . . .
