In car camera

I have just had the police out because someone has deliberately damaged my car (this is not the first time it has happened), I was wondering if one of those cameras people put in their cars to record driving/accidents would help? Is it possible to use them when the car is not running (i.e. do they run off the car battery) or can you get ones with rechargeable batteries. Do they have motion sensor things in them? As you can see I don't really know much about them but I imagine some of you have one/ can recommend one? Or any other ideas as to how I can record what is happening. Oh and whatever it is needs to work in the dark (!) because we have no street lighting but we do have a motion activated security light thing outside which may provide enough light? Also our cars are quite distance from the house so there is not point in me having cctv on the house.

If you trawl the internet, you could get something like this, which would not look odd on the dashboard.

When you say damage, do you mean damage done externally to the car. Trouble with those in-car camera's, they are best for when car is in motion. Can get some infrared in car camera's but due to the wavelength of the infrared led's, they don't work too well through glass, so will have nice image of inside the car just not outside.

Is there any place where you could hide a covert camera near the car. How far is the car from the property as you get some pretty decent high resolution night vision camera's.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Somebody has actually punctured my radiator by shoving a bit of metal through the front grille, in three places (they left the bit of metal hanging out of the front). They also left about a 100 roofing felt nails lying all around our cars and tried to scrape the paint on the bonnet. The trouble is the cars are actually parked a lot higher than the house, they sit on a parking area, which we then go down steps to get to the house, the house is approx 14m away (straight line of sight) but we cannot even angle our PIR security light to be activated by someone where the cars are because of the height difference I think.

    There are some baskets about.

A windscreen camera may work, but would need some form of street lighting to get any kind of decent image, but as you said in first post no lighting. Is the roof line at the same height as the car park area, or is there a fence or wall, that would restrict the view.

If there is a wall or fence, is there anywhere you could possibly hide a small camera. Have know someone to hide a camera within a fence post, but that requires some of external lighting.

Not an easy one to figure out

So the house is direct line of sight to the cars? So that means surely you CAN place a cctv camera at a suitable position on the house, with a a suitable lens, to monitor the car?
