Council parking fine over time help!

Hey all,

I want advice on what i should do here. Wife says i should pay the penalty of £45 but still i dont agree.

Last week i went to a emergancy dental NHS for my tooth pulled and parked my car (Pay and display) on a council street. The machine said (Out Of Order please use other) so i went to other and paid 60 pence for 30 mins. I went to the dentist and it took longer for my treatment. My parking ticket was over 13 mins and i had a ticket fixed to my windscreen. I e-mailed my council stating it was not my fault and explained where i was and what i was had doing (Emergency Dental) I got a letter back friday stating they have lookted into my letter but we have choosen that you still pay the £45 within 14 days and if fail to do so they will charge me more.

Now at this stage i dont know what to do. I have proof that i was at the dentist and could not go back to put another ticket on (as i did explain to the council) So should i take this further or just pay the fine?

Please give me advice.... Thank you :-)

You could go down the Pepipoo route to see if they can find any issues with the ticket that could invalidate it. However, you did go over the time that you paid for so it wasn't unreasonable for you to get the ticket. Any visit to the dentist or other medical practitioners is likely to go over the planned time and you should really have made allowance for that - when I go to the dentist I tend to pay for at least an extra 30 minutes parking, and if it's lengthy treatment then I'd probably allow an hour more than the intended duration of the appointment.
  • Thank you for your advice, Yeah i should of paid for 1 hour stay rather than 30 mins but it looks like ill get nowhere and have to pay the fine. In future ill stick to a pay when you finish car park (I.e Token or Ticket bar code machines) but i will have a look at that site and thank you for your help. :)
