Customising your own veil?

Hi
I wondered if it's possible to customise a veil? I'm planning on having a long 2 tier cathedral veil as I have train on my dress but all the ones I've seen with crystals and diamontes on are too expensive over £100.
I've seen a plain veil on eBay for about £20 and I was thinking of buying little crystals and glueing them on it but having a crystal on each side so you wouldn't see the glue if that makes sense.
My dress is plain with no detail in it so I wanted to try and buy/make a sparkly veil
Does that sound possible?
Thanks

I think you could - but you can try it with just a bit of gauze and see if it works. If it's the only detail you have, then I would think it has to be pretty perfect, as people will notice. Might be worth investing if you aren't so sure of your own skill.
Mind you - sometimes the 'professional' work people do like that can be pretty rubbish! At least if you do it yourself you know you will take the time to get it just right.0 -
If you found the right kind of beads (or even sequins) then you could sew them on and probably get a nicer finish than glue. Also easier to fix any mistakes if you don't like the finished result I'd imagine. there's no great mystery to making a veil and a quick google should give you some instructions. Bridal veling can be bought by the metre, but it may well be cheaper to buy something plain but ready made.0

I want to do this as well.
I bought a veil for 99p from ebay and will buy some hotfix glue and crystals and put them on like you suggested- back to back.
The lady on Big Fat Gypsy Weddings used that type of glue.
A dance shop can advise you because they sell the stuff to bling costumes. Or Ebay have loads of bling bits and pieces and they tell you how to add them.
And piccys please when you've done it!0 -
I did this! I bought a plain cathedral length veil from ebay but I wanted to be a bit different and have teal coloured crystals to match my theme, I bought a piece of net from a fabric shop to practice first, then I bought hotfix swarovski crystals from ebay and made a huge graph so all the crystals would be evenly spaced out then fixed them all with glue but holepunched some tiny pieces of tracing paper to attatch to the other side and there wasnt much fabric for them to attach to and they kept falling off. I loved it!
It worked out so much cheaper, my veil cost £4 and the crystals were about £5![STRIKE]Getting married to[/STRIKE] Married my soul mate on

Thanks for that, it's really helpful! I didn't think of using a different colour maybe I could use purple crystals

I'll see if I win this veil it ends soon and then I van plan what to do with it
Mrsanders - Would you mind sending me some pictures if you still have your veil just to see what it looked like? And where did you get a graph from? That's a good idea to make sure they look even

My mum is doing this for me! we bought veil material, cut it to shape and now she's hand sewing tiny seed beads all around the hem, and scattered over the whole veil.
The seed beads were bought wholesale, by weight, and I got a reel of 'invisible thread' which really is very difficult to see so it looks like the beads are just magically fixed there!
It's a bit of work, but the veil is looking amazing! I'm so proud and thankful for my mum's efforts!Life on a shoestring!0 -
Boo didn't get the veil
hate it when people put in last second bid, will have to keep my eye out for another one to make but got plenty of time

I used a pattern like this http://theflirtyguide.com/pages_ideas/images/the_flirty_bride/diy_swarovski_crystal_veil/DIY_swarovski_crystal_bridal_veil_beading_pattern.jpg
and printed off loads of graph paper like the square one here http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/ stuck all the pages together so that it was big enough to spread my veil out on (it took quite a lot of pages!) and then then worked out the space between each one and marked it on the graph, adding more or less if needed.
I dont think I have any close up pictures of the veil but ill try and dig it out and take one for you

No problem! I just found it out and tried taking a photo but its not coming out right in this light. This is a picture from the day and if you can zoom right in on it at the bottom of the photo you can see the teal crystals (hope it doesnt come out too big!) It was so windy that day my veil was flying about all over the placce and came out twice so there isn't many clear pictures of it. I focused mainly on crystals at the bottom and then less as they came up the veil and towards the top there wasn't any, I didnt wanna go too overboard as they were coloured
