Tablet PC with free 3G

Hi,

I am considering buying a tablet PC and have been told that some are available with lifetime, free 3G access as well as wi fi.
Queries :-
Does such a product exist
If so, does it allow full, free, internet access
What examples, if any, are available and costs.

Any comments/sugestions would be welcome.

Conceptually, isn't this similar to asking for a mobile phone with free calls bundled on it for life?

I can't see why any 3G operator would be interested in participating in such a scheme, but would be happy to be proved wrong.

I agree with Jane that it might be the Kindle that you're thinking about. That's the only tablet-esque (although it's not actually a tablet) thing I can think of that has free 3G bundled into it.

    Hi,

I appreciate your comments but this is the example that I have been told about :-

Am I not interpreting it correct.

Sadly you mis-interpreted it, yes it is sim free i.e. not tied to a mobile provider, but you still have to pay to get access to a mobile provider (either PAYG or Contract). As said by Jane and others Kindle does (at the moment) but it is not really a tablet.

You are not interpreting it correctly.

I do not know of any 3G that is inclusive (apart from kindle).

You can get 3G for a few pounds a month.

I think you are not. As the previous posters state, the Kindle has 3G access bundled, but that's because it's a controlled application (for downloading books).

The product you're looking at is "3G ready". You would still have to pay a 3G service provider for actual bandwidth.
  • The only thin gI can think of would be one of those netbook things that Ideal world were flogging last year(the missus watches it so shush :) ) and they came with a years free internet on one of the 3G providers but it really wasnt worth it and such a small amount of allowance it wasnt worth it. The netbook looked crap too.
